  12. Amanda H on January 3, 2022 at 5:45 pm

This was just what I was looking for! How often do you have your pump run?

  13. Nikki Nichols on January 3, 2022 at 5:46 pm

couldn’t you just hang plants in regular pots and water them?

  14. Cody McNeil on January 3, 2022 at 5:48 pm

Why didn’t you just use a rain chain, a barrel, water pump tubing?

Thanks so much for the video. I will absolutely try this out and send you the results. I’m wondering if you can tell me what medium you put your plants in, I can see the clay pellets but what about soil? I also see some comments about the roots being exposed to light. Have you had any issues with this? How is your garden doing today?

  22. Philip England on January 3, 2022 at 5:54 pm

Just subscribed, I live on the first floor and do window sill gardening, though not on this scale

  23. Nicole Gaxiola on January 3, 2022 at 5:54 pm

I have been using this video all week for the research portion of how me and all 125 of my 5th graders are going to build a hydroponic window garden for our STEAM class! They are very entertained and I appreciate how helpful and detailed you are as this will be our first time building one! Thanks for keeping it clean so I can show it in school! You are awesome!

Does the pump need to be running 24*7? Or how often does it need to run ?

  25. Kaethys Tellar on January 3, 2022 at 5:57 pm

Can you make a list of the things needed? I don’t hear well, and I couldn’t understand several of the items you named. The CC didn’t help either because I’m never sure if they are accurate…

  26. Joy Baisden on January 3, 2022 at 5:57 pm

There are two kinds of water pumps. Make sure you buy the submersible water pump otherwise you could be electrocuted.

  31. miekiepiekie1 on January 3, 2022 at 6:02 pm

    How strong is your pump?

  32. Jasim Sabu on January 3, 2022 at 6:02 pm

What is the cofiguration of the pump. How frequently and how much water do you supply to the plant? I indie top is same as yours about 7 feet high. My media is coco fibre.

    Hi guys,

I had in mind to do again the windowfarm community, still open source with sharing the knowledge to everybody, evolution and so. I am looking for motivated people who wants to join us in this adventure. Living in an urban zone, i wanted to grow my own vegetable but i didnt have garden. I looked for other solution and this is how i have found about this project. It is been 1 year now i am studying this and i improve plans and technics. We want to make it evolve with aquapony, electricity autonomous, integrate a probe, put an arduino, etc. We want to make it accessible people as much as possible and to use it also for education purpose.

If you like the projet, don’t hesitate to contact me. We are building a team and we need all skills possible : Electrician, graphist designers, aquaponist, developpers, gardeners, etc.

Knowledge is essential, give something and share it 🙂

Hi there, great video! I’d be interested to know what water pump are you using?

  39. frostxr on January 3, 2022 at 6:14 pm

How many ideas do you irrigate for? How many times a day? Slight difference , im using a air pump to bring up the water, should be using less power
    that way.

  40. Sandra Pokorney on January 3, 2022 at 6:15 pm

    cool video.

  41. Tony Di Meglio on January 3, 2022 at 6:16 pm

Love your energy on camera. New to window farming and this is the best I have found so far

  42. Scott Velasquez on January 3, 2022 at 6:17 pm

is there any problems with algae???

  43. Guillaume Alloxrinfo on January 3, 2022 at 6:19 pm

Is it possible to make an passive hydroponic system without electricity ? If not, does the pump consume a lot of electricity and does it make noise ? Thanks !

  44. TheDnDers on January 3, 2022 at 6:21 pm

One of the best window farm videos I’ve seen!

  45. Varsha Ghoorbin on January 3, 2022 at 6:21 pm

Great job would love to hear more of you

  46. Dante Velasquez on January 3, 2022 at 6:22 pm

this is great. how many times a day and for how long do the plants need to be irrigated?

  47. Nick Culver on January 3, 2022 at 6:24 pm

Omg one salad per week for less that $100?! Pretty shitty ROI.

  48. antoine pruyssers on January 3, 2022 at 6:26 pm

I’m looking for a budget-solution. I am quite handy, but need something i can replace the pump with.
I’ve thought about hand-watering several times throughout the day, and started mixing the soil with diaper-filling, but perhaps you can save me some time, with a good life-hack?

  49. Gonen Haba-Meishar on January 3, 2022 at 6:26 pm

great system , but silicon is poisonous for human and might get inside the vegetable , you need to see that the pipes are food grade plastic – because there is no soil to drain out the bad materials

  50. sheila keller on January 3, 2022 at 6:30 pm

Thank you for this tutorial! Does this work well in the winter for at least cold weather crops like lettuces and greens during a cold climate, or does the cold coming in the windows from outside stunt or kill the plants? Also, we already have a pump for an outdoor pond. Would that work for this? Thanks!
