Why did he grow them in a window screen?

Why did he grow them in a window screen?

You will laugh when Snöfrid speaks.

Come with me on my quest for waste free radishes.

A vendor provided me with a free sample hose with the understanding that it would appear in a video. Details on the hose are available at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L7PZDDA

The light cycle was 14 hours on 10 hours off unless I felt like having the “sun” shine in my office while I worked.

Plants were grown in an office environment under a 4 bulb 4ft High Output T5 fluorescent fixture 216 Watts.

All the grows required top offs of fresh water. PH and EC were not checked. Fertilizer was only added once (right after thinning plants).

Nutrient Recipe
2g MasterBlend Tomato 4-18-38
2g Calcium Nitrate 15.5-0-0
1g Epsom Salt
1 Gallon or 3.8 Liters tap water

Music is Snöfrid by Jean Sibelius

I like that you have included "what happened" with the how to!
    Good job Jeb.

  3. Quixotika on June 22, 2022 at 9:30 pm

I use saran wrap with holes poked in them to solve that issue. Although I think it only works on smaller plants cuz the weight would droop the plastic. I never used net cups or rock wool before

  4. Ben Sanders on June 22, 2022 at 9:30 pm

    Try cloth screen

I did not expect that Swedish https://youtu.be/-VFwKDZQxAg?t=392 she talks about "better is the hero’s noble poverty/misery, than the dragon’s concealed desire for gold" what is this and how did you find it.. I muted it*

  10. Loren Kinzel on June 22, 2022 at 9:38 pm

Burlap. Much better stretch. It will eventually rot, but not as soon as one might think. Available at fabric stores.

  11. Manuel Ross on June 22, 2022 at 9:41 pm

I just saw your video. The stretching of the window screen is very annoying. I came up with an idea for you (not testest). As only the roots need to be in the water, you could maybe design something like a hanging rack. You tie a cord to the head of the radish (just where the leaves starting, maybe a rubber band for a bit more flexibility during growth and more grip) and hang it on a rack so just the roots are in the water. In that case, the "fruit" could grow without the effort to push through a material.

Try growing in submerged pots filled with calcined clay (turface, etc)

  13. Pablo Jalapeno on June 22, 2022 at 9:41 pm

Stretchier screen? Would need more support to stop bowing. Perhaps you could snip the screen threads around the shoot so the constructing threads become loose

  14. Hannah Tjoa on June 22, 2022 at 9:42 pm

    JEBBBBBBB!!! Love your channel!

  15. Doc Atheist on June 22, 2022 at 9:44 pm

Judicious, non-overlapping snips in the screen will permit stretch — much like skin grafts were stretched to fit over areas otherwise too large to cover, back before there were special (power) tools invented for use in the operating room. The technique is still useful in medicine, today, when a circumferential bandage is placed over a wound before the region so wrapped has time to fully swell. Judicious snips…

  30. Neil Landscape on June 22, 2022 at 10:00 pm

I would cut slits in the screen once the roots going down so as it grows it separates the screen.

  37. janice baker on June 22, 2022 at 10:12 pm

What if you pruned the leaves would it encourage more root growth?

What powder you’re adding to the water?

  50. Linda S. on June 22, 2022 at 10:25 pm

Have you tried using "tulle" fabric? (It’s used to make tutu’s, and maybe bridal veils.) It would have more give than window screen.
