Getting excited for this year’s garden 😊 This system totally works for the cool weather crop scenerios but puts my warm weather crop date at June 30th when I put my warm weather crops in May 28th. Do you have a certain website that you use for the historic weather?

I just received my book πŸ“– and so excited to start reading it. I’ve learned so much about gardening from you this past year. I am looking forward to gaining more information about growing, fertilizing, and harvesting my crops. Thank you for sharing such valuable information with us. 🌱 πŸͺ΄πŸ₯•

Gary, very well done! This is very helpful. Keep the videos coming!

  7. flatsville1 on January 22, 2022 at 6:41 pm

I’ll start winter sowing soon. That’s what you do when you really can’t wait in zone 6b. Short of a prolonged period in the teens or snowmageddeon, the worst that could happen is I grow something.

  8. Mr Whitten on January 22, 2022 at 6:43 pm

Thanks for doing the homework for me. I’m just south of you in VA zone 7A. Looking forward to another excellent growing season and following your video journey. Thanks for sharing!

Ive followed your channel for some time and want to thank you for the great info on all things gardening.l have gardened many years and always had great success but I would keep finding little gems and tips in your videos. Now live in an apartment and will have two huge pots of brandywine tomatoes on my small patio.Though not actively gardening anymore l really enjoy watching your channel, so helpful as you are a great teacher.l know lm not the only one that enjoys compost and dirt.

  12. Kittie W on January 22, 2022 at 6:45 pm

Awesome video Gary. Great tips. I was out today gobbling up all the organic fertilizer clearance sales today. January focus is making paper planting pots & planning.

FYI if anyone is looking for the shelves to start plants go ASAP. They are sold out everywhere and most places saying no idea restocking date. Assuming part of shipping & shortages. Although I wanted the bigger setup to expand.

Gary are you doing a 🌱 sale this year? If you are do you have any items outside the old video as far as starts you would recommend?

Thank you, but I do have a question. Where did you pull the May 15th date from and why? As a new gardener, I was using the Old Farmer’s Almanac for 2022, which is placing the last frost for Zone 7 on April 5. That’s the date I was calculating backward from to start seeds indoors. Could you kindly explain?

    So very helpful thank you!

  16. GOoD Vibes on January 22, 2022 at 6:51 pm

Does this apply when it comes to veggies and fruit as well?

  17. Victor Benner on January 22, 2022 at 6:52 pm

I think folks really need to consider they need to get their seed orders in soon. Not just because of what you’re talking about but because so many folks who have turned to gardening recently ( covid ?) are buying up seeds much quicker then years in the past. Especially the fun and unique varieties. Good luck to all this season. πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘πŸŽπŸπŸŒΆπŸŒ½πŸ₯•πŸ₯”πŸ†πŸ…πŸ“

Thank you Gary for this information, very helpful! Where do you easily find the historical data you were talking about? (Outside temps and soil temps) Thanks!

  21. Sue Bar on January 22, 2022 at 6:56 pm

So exciting to be thinking about seed starting again 🌻

  22. Dr J on January 22, 2022 at 6:56 pm

Another great vid! The timestamp for my reference

  23. Shannon Essig on January 22, 2022 at 6:56 pm

If you’re ever looking for new video topics, I’d love to see how you stratify seeds. I’m doing it for the first time this year, and there seems to be a lot of not very much information out there. If you know what I mean. I’m going to assume that’s because it’s a simple process with a lot of options. Some say dry. Some say wet. Some say paper towels, others peat moss, still others sand.
I’m going to use damp seed starting mix. Because I have a lot of it. Fingers crossed!

  24. liza divine on January 22, 2022 at 6:57 pm

What are your thoughts on winter sowing?

  25. Lisa Morgan on January 22, 2022 at 6:57 pm

Tried a 100 times to get historical soil temps for Georgia .. it’s not happening. We are not that advanced… even tried uga website. Nada. I guess I’ll have to go with your data because we have no data in Georgia. Frustrating. 😢

  26. April C on January 22, 2022 at 6:58 pm

Thanks for the video. I still don’t quite understand the difference between cool crops 1 and cool crops 2. Could you clarify? You don’t mention both of the cool types in your other video.

  27. Will Solarski on January 22, 2022 at 6:59 pm

  29. Emily B on January 22, 2022 at 6:59 pm

I’m also in Maryland Zone 7, so I’ll be following to see when you start things. Have you grown Siberian tomatoes? I’m growing them for the first time this year, and I’m wondering if I’ll be able to put them out a little earlier than the other tomatoes.

  30. mick Mcatee on January 22, 2022 at 6:59 pm

How about doing a video on how to properly use a soil thermometer for the various species of garden crops.

  31. Jolene's Garden on January 22, 2022 at 7:00 pm

I had better luck with searching " average temperatures of last decade in Ohio by month" than I did searching for historic temps. Great video, I’m always wondering about when to start flowers since I’m fairly new to starting them from seed. Rosemary and lavender grow so slowly for me, they’ll be started within the next few weeks! Or, as soon as I get my seed starting area in the basement cleaned up, lol.

  32. Hair Bossini on January 22, 2022 at 7:02 pm

I had an amazing first time garden last year. Can’t wait to step it up in 2022 summer.

    Thank you

  34. Camlobes Vtec on January 22, 2022 at 7:06 pm

I heard in one of your recent videos that you wanna try a high tunnel or greenhouse on account of the weird weather. That’s a series that will be great. Show us bro!

  35. Loni Smith on January 22, 2022 at 7:08 pm

This is the money video I’ve been waiting for! Unfortunately I’ll be moving from Nevada to Florida when I should be hardening off my seeds and planting them. Damn. Lol. I’ll just be a little behind this year! Thanks Gary!

  36. Mitzi Evans on January 22, 2022 at 7:12 pm

I truly have tried to research for an answer. I only have room for shelving & grow lights in my unheated basement. With temps like they are it hovers around 50F. Is this too cool to start seed indoors even for cool-season plants (broccoli, kale, the like)? I’m in NC Zone 7 (Rockingham Co.)

  37. Michele Castellanos on January 22, 2022 at 7:13 pm

Took a few tries but finally figured out because I’m in zone 6B I have to start my seeds indoor March I am definitely devastated because I am going through garden withdrawals

  39. Tommy & Cheri DIY It - At Waterfall Cottage on January 22, 2022 at 7:18 pm

If we don’t start seeds by January in zone 9, it’s too late. Everything will get burned by the sun. We were at 87 today.

  40. Julie on January 22, 2022 at 7:21 pm

Thank you for this ,I’m a complete beginner, tried things last year but didn’t really know what I was doing!

  41. Amber Bullard on January 22, 2022 at 7:22 pm

I’m in NoVa and your videos are so helpful, especially since we’re somewhat in the same area! I know you’ve talked about transplanting beets before. Do you transplant turnips as well?

  48. Ash on January 22, 2022 at 7:26 pm

Thank you for adding the temperatures along general time period. Nobody ever talks about temp with gardening. Not even many seed packets! Just "6 weeks before" or "after last" frost date. Lol

  49. David Lee on January 22, 2022 at 7:27 pm

Thank you for including the Celsius equivalent!
