What to Sow in your Garden in May [Zones 3 and 4]

Despite your cold temperatures, there are still a few things you can be planting in your vegetable garden in May if you live in Zones 3 and 4. As soon as the snow melts you can get out to your garden and get some cool season crops planted!

I know you still have some pretty cold temperatures in your Zone 3 and 4 gardens. But there are some vegetables you can be planted both indoors and out.

Zone 4 only

Plant indoors in May
Brussels Sprouts, Cabbage, Cauliflower, Tomatoes, Peppers

Plant by seed outdoors
Kale, Lettuce, Onions, Peas, Spinach, Broccoli,
After your Last Frost
Winter Squash, Summer Squash, Beets, Carrots, Cucumbers

Zone 3 only
Plant indoors
Brussel Sprouts, Tomatoes, Peppers, Cabbage Cauliflower

Plant Outdoors
Kale, Beets, Carrots, Lettuce, Peas, Spinach, Asian Greens

    I just saw some cabbage & broccoli today in Walmart. I’m new to cold weather crop gardening so I didn’t know I could plant these already, thanks. This is only my second year actually growing something other than tomatoes and there is so much to learn. Thank You!
