Welcome to my parents' garden 🌿 Zone 5 garden tour

Welcome to my parents' garden 🌿 Zone 5 garden tour

Erin’s mom’s homemade deer repellent:
5 eggs
1 tablespoon powered red cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon black pepper

Put all ingredients into a jug and add water to make 1 gallon. You can add a drop or two of dish soap to act as a surfactant, although my mom usually skips this. Original recipe says to further dilute the mixture with 4 parts water to every 1 part egg mixture, but my mom usually does half that. Shake it up very well before use. She punches holes in a spare lid (usually she uses an old laundry soap jug) and shakes it onto plants but you can also use a watering can.

Following your suggestion to seek out Roy Diblik, I wonder if the grass I asked you to identify in your parents’ garden is perhaps Panicum ‘Northwind’? Thank you for the signpost. What an inspiration that wise gardener is … Thank you for the signpost.

Such a gorgeous space. Thanks for sharing it with us. Would love another tour later in the season. I can tell where you got your love of gardening from 😊

  9. Gillian Menzies on March 15, 2022 at 5:23 pm

Erin, please would you identify/name the clumps of tall, upright, dark green grass repeated around the garden; there are some clumps nearby the Clematis climbing up a structure which you pointed out. Excellent tour – again! – thanks so much.

Whose turkeys are they? Turkeys need to be controlled in order for the area to bloom fully. Mom is doing a great job and should not be stressed by unnecessary replanting and as soon as she does it is destroyed. Omg, mom is a super woman to be handling such a huge garden with some help from dad. Just viewing this video one can sense her love for gardening. Thanks for the visit

Erin, I see where your love of gardening started. Your Mom’s gardens are just beautiful. Thanks for sharing! (Love that water view).

  12. Kathleen Reynolds on March 15, 2022 at 5:30 pm

Thank you so much for sharing such an abundant garden. Though I don’t regret moving back to my home state of Colorado, seeing the lake, bluffs, and rich plantings does make me a bit nostalgic for the many years in Mequon, just a mile from the lake. (I’ll regain my sanity in January when our glorious sunshine takes away the snow in just a few hours!)

I love this kind of classic landscaping. It looks great any time of the year. Were you saying your parents now own the land in the distance?

  16. shauna battle on March 15, 2022 at 5:31 pm

Erin: how often does your mom spray the deer repellent? I am definitely going to try her recipe. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Erin, I’m new and love gardening. I formally was watching garden answers with Laura but for some reason I was being treated badly in my comments I don’t know if it’s because I’m a woman of color but I would love to be a part of your channel. Thank you in advance

  39. Kathy Szeremet on March 15, 2022 at 5:57 pm

    Hi Erin great tour thanks!
I’m new and a new gardener. Why don’t you use mulch? I’m using it to help keep weeds down. Should I not use it?

  48. Dawn Wills on March 15, 2022 at 6:10 pm

Beautiful place! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

  49. Jean E on March 15, 2022 at 6:10 pm

What beautiful gardens and what a view. Ok I have no idea what a jumping worm is but I probably would never come out of the house. I have a snake aversion and worms remind me of baby snakes. I really enjoyed the tour❤️❤️❤️
