Quebecois design duo — and H&H‘s 2019 Designers of the Year — Les Ensembliers give you a tour of their Humming Hill farm’s beautiful French garden. You’ll fall in love with Richard Ouellette and Maxime Vandal’s 32-hectare property, anchored by two old apple trees. Maxime grows everything from fresh herbs to fruits and vegetables — even edible flowers (they planted 8,000 seeds). Meet the couple’s chickens, discover the beautifully-designed koi pond and see Maxime’s beekeeping. Plus, you won’t believe the large harvest table is made out of the old house!

Made me homesick for my grandparents’ house in the Philippines. They had a villa with a big backyard. During the summer, under the three-story tall tamarind tree, we had lunch at a long table covered with fresh banana leaves laden with mounds of steamed rice, grilled meats and vegetables and fresh tropical fruits from the family orchard. Across the low fence is a small stream, and beyond the stream is an endless sea of rice fields, with golden rice stalks swaying gently in the summer breeze. Thank you for sharing your beautiful garden with us and triggering such happy memories for me!

Lovely beautiful garden , but few things that made me laugh though. " she designed it so it can be seen from space’ and ‘ must apologize for the skilled gardeners then saying its good for bringing the bees in the garden when pointing at the edible flowers. …….. Then somehow attending his bees and says ‘Now I cant be stung’ while having gabs everywhere haha… surely a garden is very important to be seen from space! Amazing sourdough!! I dont mnd being an accessory there!
This was so cool! I loved it! Very tranquil. I cannot garden to save my life but all the home grown veg and the rest makes me jealous. I’m still waiting to get confirmation on an allotment so I can do the same (well not quite the same) thing in London.
