Love the idea, where I live we get lots of snow…some can be really heavy so do you think that netting will last here?

Nice addition Tony. Guess I’d agree with some, the price. But nothing says, since
you buy in modules, you can’t start small, and add as necessary. Over the years
your soft fruit area has grown and is dedicated needing more netting than most.
    Question,
Does Northern Polytunnel offer any advice on the life expectance of the netting?
Seems it may last longer if taken down, but that adds one more chore each Spring
and Fall plus the chance of damaging it when doing so. Your thoughts.
TYFS, Nice Job Mark n Rosa

  22. heather linnette on July 3, 2022 at 10:11 pm

I have one of these fruit cages and I agree the quality is excellent I’m not the cheapest fruit cage on the market. Mine is certainly not the same size as yours And I don’t grow my fruit in it, I use mine to grow my brassicas and peas . I was finding it very hard to get into my brassicas hope netting as I’m disabled, fruit tunnel was the answer for me.

  23. Sheila Thomas on July 3, 2022 at 10:12 pm

Very interesting, video that’s a cracking cage.

Perfect is boring Tony. Big reason I love it !! Aside from too much rain, wind, heat, cold, pest, poor seeds, soil quality and structure gardening is easy lol especially when you new but that’s a big reason we love it !!
The cage looks solid !! And will stand the test of time!!
    Cheers Jason and Colleen 🌱🀞🌱

Hi Tony, wow! Huge fruit cage and nice of Danny to help you too. I bought a fruit cage last Year but, mine is from first tunnels and my hubby and I built it together and its brilliant. I bought long plastic clips to secure the netting on the top with called times too. The left over netting, I cut it with about 4 inches over and turned my netting towards the inside then held in place with the large staples to hold it in place and as i have bark on the ground so, I covered it with that. Its got through the Winter and all the storms we have all had so, very impressed with how strong it is. Thanks for sharing and take care πŸ™‚

  38. Raccoon TrashPanda on July 3, 2022 at 10:28 pm

You don’t want to use a soft fabric net like that to keep birds away from fruit, if they fly into it or land on it they can very easily get tangled. If no one cuts the bird free it will die and then scavenger animals attracted to the body also get caught in the net. If the animal is cut free from the net while alive it can still suffer serious constriction wounds, sometimes leading to amputation of limbs. Its much better to use a hardwire mesh to keep animals away from fruit.

Another great video, Tony! And I’m jealous of that huge fruit cage πŸ˜‰ Thankfully we have many cherry trees on surrounding plots, so my soft fruit is usually safe from the birds – they’re busy elsewhere 🀣

A first class job. Looks nice and sturdy. What are the actual dimensions of the cage, it looks huge. Did i notice a gap above the door & frame? Will you be taking the roof off for winter? Nice to see you took time to get the levels right….Ive seen one look like the Black Mountains πŸ€£πŸ‘. Nice one guys

  43. jen sissons on July 3, 2022 at 10:43 pm

Wow Β£6,000 for the large 2 door cage? I dont use a cage at all and only a few berries get eaten. If there was a problem I would throw some scaffold netting over the bush when the fruit is ripening.
