Maybe do some research on plant name pronunciation so you’re not passing on incorrect information.

  4. Sunny Gardner on April 22, 2022 at 6:28 pm

    It’s Baptisia–not Decadence Hybrids, lol.

  5. almedina rogo on April 22, 2022 at 6:29 pm

Great list! I would just add ligularia, a great yellow flowering shade plant.

  6. Creatrix Corvus Arts on April 22, 2022 at 6:29 pm

Its lovely that you did such a comprehensive list. I am disappointed that there was only one plant for deep, DRY shade though. I know you were doing flowering plants, but I just want to fill my deep, dry space under the pine trees with something….anything (NOT ivy!!!) Do you have any suggestions specifically for that? I’ve tried googling it but nothing seems to fit my needs.

This Video ROCKS! I have a HUGE shady area. I’ve never planted anything under all the big trees I have. Great tips on WHAT to PLANT. Thanks a lot! Liked, subbed and saved……

Great list! I’ve tried most of these and have had light success, in zone 8, TX is way too hot! I also need better shade! And better watering pattern for that side of the property. Thanks for the detailed clarification on some of these that I place in the wrong areas. Lol!

Are there any plants that will tolerate direct afternoon sun with shade during the rest of the day? Also, I have clay soil which slopes and drains surprisingly well. I don’t have moist, humusy conditions.

  15. Sunny Gardner on April 22, 2022 at 6:39 pm

    Hoe-sta? Please educate yourself. It’s pronounced Hoss-tuh.

Hi, I work in the nursery business, and there needs to be some clarification here. First, when shopping at a REAL nursery (not box store) ALWAYS ask for the plant by botanical name. While I applaud Classy Flowers effort, @ 4:18 those are not "Decadence" flowers, they’re Baptisia, or their common name of "Wild Indigo". "Decadence", as she refers them, is the new line of varieties the growers have just introduced to the market. @ 4:08 those are two types of Delphinium; Larkspur or fountain delphinium, and then plain delphinium. And finally, Heuchera or Coral Bells will revert to green or a really ‘blah’ color if they don’t get enough sun to hold color in their leaves. Heuchera are also an evergreen, so don’t ever cut them down. Just remove the dried leaves after winter.

  27. Katie Kane on April 22, 2022 at 6:53 pm

Here in deep south USA, Baptisia needs more sun than Hellebore or Hosta.

This did not explain how some plants need a winter chill to survive past the first year. This is rarely addressed and is annoying to those of us in warmer climates.

9:55 I hope you meant to say "germination is erratic" not "erotic" 😳

I was very disappointed that there was not one single plant you named that will grow in a zone 10a garden. Do you know of any flowers that will grow in shade in zone 10a?
