Seed Starting, Tomatoes Peppers and Much More in Zone 3

Seed Starting, Tomatoes Peppers and Much More in Zone 3

Spring is fast approaching and it is time here in Zone 3 to start seedlings indoors. Today I am going to go through the different phases of seed starting I do in preparation for the growing season outside.
Advantages
There are a few advantages to starting your own seedlings. The cost is often lower than purchasing seedlings from a greenhouse, especially if you take advantage of a natural light source. You can also select more unique varieties that just are not available anywhere else. Finally I find it helps me extend the season by enjoying some greenery in the house well I wait for spring.

I just found your channel and I would love to see more videos. I’m in Cheyenne Wyoming, our climates are likely pretty similar except for the lack of humidity here. I’m going to try your method with the melons. How was your success on those melons you trellised? I’ve not been successful with melons so far in Wyoming, the growing season is just too short and it takes the ground a long time to warm up in the Spring.

I’m literally just doing this as a hobby and it’s the summer I’m an 11 year old boy and I love doing this right now I’m planting tomatoes, beans, cucumbers, strawberries, and raspberries.😊

Always enjoy your videos, very informative. I particularly found the one you did on Comfrey leaf analysis interesting. We are starting out a chemical free market garden starting with tomatoes. It was great to find a high potassium natural fertilizer and your video was a great confirmation of this so thank you. I’m curious to know how Borage compares to Comfrey (B14) as a fertilizer. Thanks again for the great videos. Cheers from Australia.

Don’t really trust a lot of what I hear out there and you have never steered me the wrong way..Georgia 7b very humid after it rains but it has been particularly dry for 2 whole weeks.. Squash has taken off (thanks to drip irrigation from tank just like the one you have but I haven’t reconfigured the gutters yet.. I pump it from a spring fed creek) but should I be pruning squash for airflow for when it does start getting humid?

Hey man, where are you? Are you ok? We miss you

  16. Scott Peacor on September 5, 2021 at 1:04 am

I had slug problems too and was picking them off, using beer wells, and such. Then one night I saw what was really eating my seedlings: the pill and sow bugs. I can’t believe how much they can take down now that I’ve paid more attention to them.

Jackie Clay-Atkinson of Backwoods Home Magazine lives in very northern Minnesota. She has a seed business: "Seed Treasures". I buy from her because I am also in zone 3. She has a large variety of seeds and they all work in a northern climate. (Just in case anyone needs another source of seeds)
