This is such a strange video for me because growing up, Hollyhocks were pests that we could never get to go away. We loved them, but let them grow out of check and they’d run the garden

  7. Gretta Lemabouchou on September 18, 2021 at 2:00 am

Wow I am crushing on him.

  8. Courtney Coleman on September 18, 2021 at 2:01 am

I live in central Texas and gardening here can be quite different. I would be scared to walk through anything that dense without snake boots. 🙂 This video is still really inspiring. A great reminder that you can do a lot on a small plot of land or even just a porch.

I’ll be dividing my dark purple bearded irises this year. I spoke to my neighbor and she said she would love some! It’s good to share!

  12. Sara Carraway on September 18, 2021 at 2:03 am

Wow gorgeous garden, and amazing editing, shots, and narration! I felt like I was watching a PBS documentary. Loved it.

Cottage tardens have masses of plants packed together with no mulch between.

  15. The Hangman's Daughter on September 18, 2021 at 2:10 am

You are so right! My Grandad said a cottage garden is about the growth of the gardener, not the plants. He tended the same garden for 50 years. When my Nana had a stroke he kept it beautifully just so she could look at it. That garden was about a marriage, not just pretty flowers.

This was my first video of yours. It was lovely. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home. Subbed💕✨

Beautiful garden and instructive video. Your advice on slowly constructing a beautiful garden, not just rushing to buy all the plants at a nursery, rings very true. Thank you for sharing.

I liked this guy as soon as I saw he had a garden cottage and suspenders, but the classy video and ad intri put him on a whole new level

  21. Sara B. on September 18, 2021 at 2:15 am

Those are tall bearded irises that are blooming in the video. I didn’t see any flag irises. 👍

  23. The French Gardener on September 18, 2021 at 2:18 am

I have beautiful hollyhocks but they are fussy to get going. I also have moles and voles and finally found "Giant Detroyer" on Amazon which keeps them under control.

  24. SeaRose on September 18, 2021 at 2:19 am

How deep do you plant seeds that you have pre-sprouted? The normal depth that the seed would have been planted? Or do you plant it deep enough that they sprout is above the soil level? Will the sprout rot if you orient it the wrong direction?

I have wanted to try something like this, but always chicken out and direct seed. This means I get uneven germination which is mostly okay except when I get only one or two of something I really want to grow (like scented stocks for instance) and massive amounts of others.

    Hi…
First time to view your videos … so great video
    … 👍👍👍👍👍

  26. bear jr on September 18, 2021 at 2:20 am

Instead why not feed the groundhog? Leave easier food for it to find and it will fill itself before it touches your plants. Work with nature not against it

    birds really use these birdhouses?

  28. A Little Garden Up North on September 18, 2021 at 2:24 am

Wow. First YouTube video ever that made the commercial cut in the middle tasteful. I liked this video, you made me realize that yes, I have to plant more perennials so that I have trusty plants that return and to have some extra annuals for the bare spots (hello zinnias). Nice video. Will be back for more.

  32. Jay Michael Burkard-Denomie on September 18, 2021 at 2:30 am

Thank you for your message of growing more flowers! So true- the world benefits from their beauty and charm!

  33. willslingwood on September 18, 2021 at 2:31 am

You are so right. A good cottage garden is not about controlling nature but finding our own place in it, making adjustments to both our environment and our own expectations of it as we go.

  34. Leslie Kendall on September 18, 2021 at 2:31 am

The plural of an iris plant is iris. Forgive me. I don’t know why I’m this way, it just is what it is. Love your videos.

  35. Shelly on September 18, 2021 at 2:36 am

    We think a lot alike.
I loved your video, your gardens and plant choices. Thank you for sharing. Happy Gardening in 2021

  36. Kit DuBhran on September 18, 2021 at 2:37 am

Lovely video. Hadn’t watched this one yet for some reason.

Nice to see. And I do love the idea of growing flowers around the garden. My neighbor had a massive collection of different flowers and they’re just lovely. I’ve been adding a bit here and there to mine as well.

Got some yarrow out front that’s spread a bit and I’m happy to see that. Also lavender and creeping rosemary.

I’m currently loving the wild speedwell spreading in my semi-shade spots. It has these beautiful tiny purple flowers that look a little like miniature pansies, and a nice carpet of green leaves to counteract the grass.

"A true cottage garden is as much about growing plants as it is about cultivating a gardener." Wow, such a great way of thinking about gardening. Thank you!

  43. Swastika Banerjee on September 18, 2021 at 2:41 am

We try to save plants by spraying with neem oil suspension, Chilli powder solutions, neem powder solutions, garlic solutions and sometimes a combination of these….they do work

Hello, new subscriber to you channel. Very much enjoyed your beautiful garden. I am 80 years old so can’t do as much as I would like, however, I still try. I liked how you show the failures along with the wins, it helps new gardeners not to give up. Thank you.
