Quitting Your Job to Farm Seeds For a Living? π±
My friend Brijette used to be a green interior designer, making beautiful living walls. Not anymore. Now she farms for seeds in her own backyard in San Diego, CA and sells them to local farmers, gardeners, and on the internet.
She’s one of, if not THE only certified organic local seed producer in the United States.
Saving seeds and creating new varieties that are adapted to local microclimates is vital in our changing climate. I think you’re going to see a lot more “Brijettes” in the future…and she’s leading the way.
In today’s episode, I visit Brijette and we walk through the process of harvesting eggplants for seed, processing them, drying them, and grading them for quality. You’ll learn how Brijette got started, but also super-interesting info about how the seeds you buy at the garden center actually get into those packets. We also talk a bit about heirloom seeds and how to save them.

Is a better way to take out the seeds from aubergine lol
Awesome interview. What a cool chic!
Thank you
She’s so cool and provides so much information.
Just walk around any target or Walmart and you can find a packet or 20 drying silica packets.
Not quite hygenic. She touches her hair and with that same hands she touches the seeds.
$he does not produce these seeds she is a repacked most of those seeds comes from indiaπ
The jealous dolphin significantly untidy because beetle concordingly lick within a second node. wakeful, political duck
Everyone should try and save their own seeds
The lighting is not good π₯
You use colander for the correct cause.
Wow
The dislikes are the number of times she touched hair!
She is incredible, her idea is wonderful, and is a really big surprize she is the only certified organic seed producer in the US…that is incredible
My bees would love you guys.
I’m an island girl… we put our seeds in the sun…
So how is keeping the "B" seed for your farm to replant for the following year keeping the quality of the seed bank? Shouldn’t you hold some of the "A" seed back to replant?
Went from $175 dollars for seed to $45 dollars for my garden and most of that cost is to trial new seed. Saving seed is easy.
This is so FASCINATING! I have so much more appreciation for local (organic) seed growers
How do you prevent birds & animals from eating your sunflower seeds?
Great editing! Your channel has been beyond helpful, thanks.
Awesome video. Thank you for making this! Loved it! I learned a lot about seeds today! Fascinating! I had no idea there was so much to know! So cool that you have the only organic seed farm in America! That’s AMAZING!*. I will definitely forward this to someone who loves plants and wants to learn more! Thanks again! π

Gold mine she discovered how American dream is making lots of money the easy wayππππ we were doing that my grandfather without machine but by hand but the companies said that’s other top quality no quality control, no germination test, no federal sta darts that’s third world standards and many people believed those companies … my grand father can show thousand seeds and make 900 viable plant ,the seed companies sell 10 seeds in a pocket for 2 $ and 9 viable plant wow companies 90% seed germination viability@ it’s best qualityππππ why go for ten seeds when you can plant thousands and choose 900 most vigorous seedlings ππππ
This is fantastic! Thank you EG for this valuable episode.
If accurate then thumbs up.

Brijette @12:41 β¦ π€π΅π€£!!!

Seems like coke or some speed pill, I’d party with you.
Canna seeds plz
As always, great vid mate. I am inclined to start producing seed on a small scale here in scotland too. Great content thanks π
hi Brijette!!!
I need that Plinko machine! So cool. Cultivated.
Seems like we should all be doing this right now,
Iβm new to gardening but love it, hypothetical – my veg garden is all set up for the year, can I then leave 2 or 3 of each crop in to go to seed? Or will they all cross pollinate and mess up being in the same garden?
People should never need to buy more then one pack of the same seeds. Always harvest seeds and clone to reproduce for free. A bonus is that you can share or sell. Plants are awesome!!!
She’s clearly got a lot more farm to show, I would definitely love a follow up episode.
Can this same process be done with all vegetable seeds? Let them over ripe then follow this same process?
Cool video
Great watch. You cut alot of "umm" s out brother good editing
I think I’ve found my calling. π
I probably wouldnβt quit my job maybe use it as a side job
Hey thanks for the video ! Really loved to see how seeds get processed, learned a lot β¨
