Do you need to have a seed starting tray? Can I just plant the seeds in the terracotta pots?

  2. Vittoria Bakes on September 11, 2021 at 12:56 am

My south-facing apartment balcony is unfortunately now completely blocked by a big beautiful maple tree. So now I’m not sure how my herbs will do this year. I have a south-facing window that the tree partially blocks throughout the day until mid-afternoon to evening, so am looking at maybe a hanging shelf setup to put in front of the window. The tree is great but also I am new-ish to gardening and am confused on how to approach it all. Any thoughts or advice? Can the herbs still grow if there is little to no sun on the balcony? I’ve got greek oregano, rosemary, mint, basil, and catnip.

  4. JustAConfusedLibra on September 11, 2021 at 12:57 am

Do you mix the potting mix and seed soil together to use for the seedlings?

  5. lena sledge on September 11, 2021 at 12:58 am

I really wish more gardeners would do videos on starting seeds with OUT grow lights. Our ancestors did not have grow lights and yet they were still able to grow food for their families. Why not show people how to grow food for their families without spending extraneous money on unnecessary things. Times are hard for a lot of people right now. And some don’t have space for grow lights either.

I got triggered when you said you have no issues with Basil 😂 because HOW!? I live in WI and I can’t grow it for the life of me.

  8. Rebecca Masters on September 11, 2021 at 1:02 am

I saw that your seeds were from “High Mowing”. I’ve been getting my seeds from them for years. Love their seeds! But I don’t remember you ever mentioning them. Have you? They are also the only place I could ever find German Butterballs, the best potato ever!!😁

  9. Wandy Gonzalez on September 11, 2021 at 1:03 am

Do you wet your soil when you create a well (to insert plant). When i try the soil keeps sliding back in. ☹

  13. Stacey Georgoulis on September 11, 2021 at 1:12 am

this video was PERFECT! I love that you explained every step and different methods (seeds vs plant). One question – how often do you have to water basil and cilantro after they start to grow (from seeds)?

  14. Crystal Chili on September 11, 2021 at 1:13 am

    I use Dill so much!

  15. Kate Nash on September 11, 2021 at 1:14 am

Is your green house heated at night?

  18. Coach Bernice on September 11, 2021 at 1:20 am

Thanks for this video. It looks like there are so many basil plants in that small pot! Will they become root bound or unhappy in such a cramped space?

  19. Michelle Barnett on September 11, 2021 at 1:21 am

Oh yay, we get to go shopping with Laura as well and would love to browse a bit more in Mum and Dads store.

I wish I had space in my kitchen for a mini grow light garden! Would love to start herbs from seed. Whenever i buy the grocery store potted ones they get diseased or something!

  22. chelsea M on September 11, 2021 at 1:23 am

If you use a seed starting mix vs potting soil, do you need vermiculite still? Thanks!

  23. lisacheeze Cheeze on September 11, 2021 at 1:23 am

Just ordered the bamboo garden kit! So excited to have something that looks good on my kitchen table rather than my makeshift diy grow light hanging from the chandelier, lol!

  26. Lexi 93 on September 11, 2021 at 1:28 am

I’ve got twin three year olds that have yanked the basil out, thrown them around, and tore up the leaves and they still survived and are flourishing. We had some casualties but there’s enough for the small pot we are using. It is incredibly hardy! We put it out of their reach now so it gets less sun but it’s actually growing much better now (north facing)

  27. Juli'sGardenThyme on September 11, 2021 at 1:29 am

Have you wanted to have a garden space devoted just to herbs outside? Especially like perennials such as rosemary, parsley, oregano, thyme? I love being able to snip chives in the winter (zone 7A)

  28. SCOTT Sheehan on September 11, 2021 at 1:32 am

    Awesome! Thanks!

  29. Not So Centrist Dad on September 11, 2021 at 1:32 am

A good thing to do with the herbs purchased as plugs or in pots from the supermarket is to divide them as usually they are forced multiple plants crowded in one pot / plug!

  30. Andrew Lang on September 11, 2021 at 1:32 am

    Erbs?? In UK 🇬🇧 it’s Herbs 🪴

  31. Benjamin Buchanan on September 11, 2021 at 1:32 am

  37. Jeanie H on September 11, 2021 at 1:38 am

Watching you sow seeds, I am always made aware that I sow way too many in one pod.

  38. ThatgirlTaylor on September 11, 2021 at 1:40 am

My opinion you should make a program about this stuff

  39. Jasmine Louise Farrall on September 11, 2021 at 1:40 am

I absolutely love my herbs 🌿

  40. Amanda Barton on September 11, 2021 at 1:40 am

Anyone know what size terracotta put would be good for potting herb plants like these? I’m ordering online to avoid stores. 😀

  41. Renee Smith on September 11, 2021 at 1:41 am

  42. Denise Erskine on September 11, 2021 at 1:42 am

Does anyone know of good markers to use, plastic and what to use to Wright on them. I’ve used the plastic markers and wrote on them with sharpie, but that didn’t work at all. I grow so many varieties I need to mark them and the markers to last. I thought about making wood ones and putting a sealer on top of writing to see if they’d last thru summer.

  43. Patricia Ann Russell on September 11, 2021 at 1:42 am
