Always a good job. Thanks. Sounds like you are close to the GSP. Huh? I’m near higher noise levels if 440, 287 and I-95. Horrific 24 hours a day.

  5. Alexius Jones on June 9, 2022 at 8:55 pm

Gary, you are the trellis king!! Thanks for all the different options and ideas!

  6. Joyce Obeys on June 9, 2022 at 8:57 pm

Going up on trellises gave me a horrible problem with Japanese beetles especially on the grapes n roses.

But I’m still using trellises anyways. I fight with slugs moths, n roly poly bugs too.

I went and bought ladder mesh block 8” at Home Depot in the cement isle. I put two ladder mesh together next to one another with zip ties to make them sturdier n then put then together with another set on the other side in pots on the patio to get them high enough to walk under it.

They didn’t have the 2” which are sturdier.

Loved this! Thank you so much! With rising costs on everything, I’m scavenging tposts, using trimmed branches. I wanted visual as well as productive success (fills the soul), your ideas renewed that. Blessings to you and your community

It the rust safe for us, like if we Accidentally get cut or scraped by it

  9. joju24 on June 9, 2022 at 9:01 pm

You gave me some fantastic ideas, thank you!

  10. Gale Jenness on June 9, 2022 at 9:05 pm

Really like the looks of your garden! You got quite a few accessories I still need to acquire myself and I’m not good at hunting for cheap or free stuff to use. I tend to just buy new stuff when I need it. May cost more but less hassle hunting around for things in the long run I’m not so sure that cheap or free stuff is actually all that cheap by the time you factor in your gas, time and effort going to go hunt and bring stuff home to repurpose?

Great ideas, thanks. Just fyi – the Italian word zucchini is Plural already. You don’t need an s.

    Beautiful

  13. Mona's Take on June 9, 2022 at 9:08 pm

Can you change a trellis during the season? I planted cucumbers and did a string trellis but they are almost to the top. I was thinking of getting a cattle panel and switching it up.

  14. smb12321 on June 9, 2022 at 9:10 pm

"vertical growing ideas" – what garden plants are not vertical growing? OK, squash and melons.

  15. jthepickle7 on June 9, 2022 at 9:10 pm

Once the plastic blows off in a storm, the hoops and purlins of a hoop house remain as supports to trellis.

  16. Dee M on June 9, 2022 at 9:12 pm

WOW! You really "went to town" LOL Thank you for terrific ideas! As usual, only the best from you 🙂
P.S. I’m so envious of all those healthy looking plants! (But in a nice way :-))

  17. Nilo Lee on June 9, 2022 at 9:12 pm

Are they pressure treated wood around the bed and are they safe to use?

  18. Loretta Viecelli on June 9, 2022 at 9:13 pm

    great ideas..thank you for sharing!

  19. Joyce Obeys on June 9, 2022 at 9:14 pm

I put two together with zip ties next to each other and I put two together to make it higher in the air. Works great for pots on patios or in yards.

  20. Ines Crawford on June 9, 2022 at 9:18 pm

I love your garden! I have mismatch items that I never knew how to use them until today.
    Thank you!! Thank you!!

  21. AM Morales on June 9, 2022 at 9:18 pm

Really ingenious ways to create trellises. Thanks Gary!

  22. Thomas on June 9, 2022 at 9:19 pm

I love the rapid fire exhaustive nature of this video. There are also ways to scavenge a wooded area for stakes and lattice substitutes without hitting the big box home centers now that inflation has marked up building supplies.

  23. Brian Leger on June 9, 2022 at 9:19 pm

    Enjoyed learning content

  24. E- Man on June 9, 2022 at 9:19 pm

The wire mesh is rusted … is that why you call your garden "the rusted garden"?

  25. hj Carpentier on June 9, 2022 at 9:21 pm

I have used old gazebo frames bean tendrils grab on to readily. Can also use string or wire from post to post.

  26. Vajra Deutsch on June 9, 2022 at 9:23 pm

So it seems that you have to have ways beds in order to use any of these and feel that it’s secure because every example aside from the circular open wire pieces seem to be held in place by a frame on the level of the ground.

  27. R Davis on June 9, 2022 at 9:25 pm

When using an arched trellis or a frame, should it be oriented for the open area facing east west or north south?

  28. Carolyn Neal on June 9, 2022 at 9:25 pm

I have watched this video over ten times in the last year because it is loaded with information! I didn’t want to miss a thing! Thank you for sharing all your knowledge and ideas. 🙏

    Very informative video! Thx!

  30. Hopi Woman on June 9, 2022 at 9:28 pm

I wonder if these metal trellis options would get too hot in the sun in my hot climate and damage the plants touching them. Especially something heavy like a T-post or rebar.

  31. TRUMPGIRL 2020 on June 9, 2022 at 9:29 pm

We have rows of squash and tomatoes can you just trellis the whole row for squash and tomatoes? Any suggestions would help thanks!!!!

  32. Bella on June 9, 2022 at 9:30 pm

Hi Gary, I saw your asparagus growing. I’ve never grown any before and this is my first year I’ll be planting it. Do you have any tips or recommendations on how to grow it? I.e. soil, watering etc

  33. Michele Krile on June 9, 2022 at 9:31 pm

@Gary Pilarchik (The Rusted Garden), Is it safe to use wire that is rusty? Is it ok to use the rust ones in the beds and the crops growing onto it?

  34. Donald Bersano on June 9, 2022 at 9:33 pm

Gary, Thanks for such an informative and useful video. I am good to go with so many good ideas for trellising after watching this! Good stuff!!

  35. Karen Domagalski on June 9, 2022 at 9:35 pm

Best garden video I have watched. So many things I haven’t thought of. Your garden is beautiful and I’m going to be using your ideas! Thank you

Love the creatvity and attitude twards trying anything and everything that works! Awesome trelising! I built a new one its just pressure treated 2×4 12 inch into the ground in a line then more 2×4 connecting the verticals on top,and i have those indeterminate tomatoe nylon string reels screwed into the top of those

  43. Brenda Bell on June 9, 2022 at 9:41 pm

I use old pvc pipe to stick my tomatoes. Easy to drive in the ground and lasts for years.

  44. Lucy Byrd on June 9, 2022 at 9:43 pm

This entire video is wonderful thank you so much so often I find the closet shelving in the trash from people that are moving out and remodeling homes

  45. Sophia Isabella Rose on June 9, 2022 at 9:45 pm

I cannot find the ladder mesh ANYWHERE! Lowes is out, Home Depot is out … I found some in an online Midwest store and they wanted to charge $500 for shipping to the West coast. Do you have a link where I can buy the 10 ft ladder mesh that you used in your video? Thanks!!

  46. poosmate on June 9, 2022 at 9:46 pm

A friend of mine "Shark Scrapper" in Florida goes out every week collecting scrap metal on trash day. He comes across many items that could be used for trellis in the garden, plenty of wire shelving, pet cages, mops/brooms (use the handles), chicken wire, metal/wooden fencing, the list is endless what people throw out. Anyone starting out or looking to expand for almost free could go out once a month and find more than enough supplies to make a good start for the cost of time and petrol. Also remember all the "stuff" you rescue for re-use or re-purposing was destined for the landfill. Do yourselves and the world a favour and satisfy most of your gardening needs for almost free. Take care all and happy gardening, Poo

Mattress springs and wooden box frame…

  50. julia law on June 9, 2022 at 9:49 pm

I get wood, rebar,, just about anything for free from the dumpsters at construction sites 🙂! I always get permission from the contractor and anything in the dumpsters are there for the taking…you’d be shocked at all the great stuff I find!
