Baker Creek has some seeds that others don’t (hence their address at rare seeds) but they are more expensive than many other companies and a for-profit company. I like the non-profit Seed Savers Exchange – prices are better and they teach you how to save your own seeds so you don’t have to keep re-purchasing.

Great video! Keep on doing videos like this :). It’s nice to see where some of our seeds come from and to get recommendations on what to buy. The Baker Creek catalog is overwhelming and at the same time, buying interesting seeds from them is always an adventure.

John – you are definitely growing on me…so to speak. πŸ˜‰

  11. Bill H. on January 8, 2022 at 5:50 pm

Every year I order a wide variety and colors of sweet pepper seeds from Baker Creek. Not sure what I’m doing wrong but all my peppers end up more or less the same and are all green. The colors never show up. I have a similar problem with tomatoes but with some variation. The hot peppers typically work out great. Maybe it’s an East Coast thing, and the grow season is just not long enough?

  13. MsAthenaMaack on January 8, 2022 at 5:51 pm

Instant thumbs down when you were in the apothecary and called the items stuff for girls and stuff for girly guys. Be an educator, not biased by incorrect societal falasies. Every one needs soap with herbs in it and at some point everyone will drink a tea. Please Respect the medicinal aspect of flowers and herbs, and what an apothecary stands for.

  14. Scott Allen on January 8, 2022 at 5:51 pm

Great selection of unusual (as well as many standard) edible plants. They gather seeds from all over the world. One of my favorite seed nurseries.

  17. Rich Puppy on January 8, 2022 at 5:53 pm

Great video, I have different seeds from Baker Creek. They are an excellent source for heirloom seeds.

  18. VagabondAnne on January 8, 2022 at 5:54 pm

Dude, they collect seeds worldwide, but grow them out for seed production in the US, they are no dummies. They don’t tell you what state, but their seed grower program is totally domestic.

  19. Cheryl Hale on January 8, 2022 at 5:55 pm

The REALLY big Baker Creek catalog costs $12.95…it isn’t free. The Atmic Grape tomatoes are beautiful and delicious

  24. Spiritual Compass on January 8, 2022 at 6:01 pm

This is fantastic! I tried seeding before and it didn’t work for me. I can only grow in an apartment, I don’t have a garden or yard. I guess I was impatient and not great at it. I think I’m going to need guidance or diy vid to show me exactly what I have to do with seeds. I’ve been looking for organic, non-gmo seeds from US only. I will check their catalogue. Thank you so much. Blessings to you and everyone on this thread.

  25. Patrice's Projects on January 8, 2022 at 6:01 pm

Great information. Thank you for sharing this tour. I had no idea how much stuff other than seeds you could learn about and buy there in the Baker Creek Village.

  26. Pinkenstein on January 8, 2022 at 6:01 pm

The beet John couldn’t pronounce is the Crapaudine beet, second from the right on the bottom shelf, hot pink and shaped like a carrot. It’s actually the oldest known heirloom seed, dating back at least 1,000 years. I think that’s just so, so cool! Our ancestors were growing and eating those very same beets back in the dark ages, and they’ve remained untampered with all this time! I’m growing some in my own garden, and I can’t wait to try them! Thanks Baker Creek, for helping me feed my family, and thanks John, for teaching me how, and thanks Josh for selling the Boogie Brew pro deluxe kit! You all are changing lives everyday. ✊

  27. Cheryl Hale on January 8, 2022 at 6:01 pm

I live near Comstock-Ferre. It’s smaller than Baker Creek, but still great. Come on up!

  28. Gage Campbell on January 8, 2022 at 6:04 pm

I greatly appreciate the tour and all of the info you provided! It was highly valuable! However I do want to address the misogynistic, toxically masculine, and imperialistic comments that were made and then followed by a chuckle. I appreciate everything you provided in your video, but those moments greatly tarnished your content for me, and I’m sure other viewers. I would love to learn more from you, but if these kinds of comments "slip through your filter" then I don’t want to give you another moment of my time. You seem highly knowledgeable and passionate and I would hate to miss out on learning from someone who actually has knowledge to share.

  29. Salty CowGirl on January 8, 2022 at 6:04 pm

ok I love your dry sense of humor… I actually laughed out loud when you were talking about your athletic fit t shirt that "shows how buff you are on a plant based diet"!!! lol… i get it…

Well done John, as always good advice, and gets you thinking and planning. I will certainly try one or two different plants

Hello i have watched a few of your videos and they’re very informative and i want to thank you . I also want to share with you that i am moving to the philippines with my wife who is from there . We are going to buy a 5 acre piece of land up in the mountains where she lives with the richest best soil i’ve ever seen . we’re going to grow specific types of foods and create a farm on this land . coconut , pineapple , mangoes , and bananas . we are also going have a piggery and chickens ducks turkeys and we’re purchasing a fishing boat from her uncle to provide us with the sea foods we need . Now you’re probably wondering why we’re doing all this we are actually going to produce some frozen style dinners and lunches that we are going to provide to the schools and to the public . we are completely and totally 100% against monsanto’s little mission to destroy all our foods including the poultry and the meat that we eat period unfortunately he is here in philippines taking his gmo poison and trying to integrated into the filipino culture . Most filipinos are against this and we want u provide foods the people here so that we can avoid being poisoned . i would love to come visit you and get some ideas on how to make this farm come together i do have some experience but i want to make sure i have the right experience before we dive into this next year my name is patrick my phone numbers 360 2016 0 9 5 would love to hear from you and being a commercial truck driver i do get through missouri every once in a while thank you hope to talk to you soon

    Go to Nivitovka seeds.
They have over 225 varieties of cucumbers. Mind blowing!
They have an enormous beet seed collection too.
