It is such a good time of year for reading up. My Mom kept the gardening related books on a special shelf in the front room for easy access, when I was a child I had no interest in them at all but now I love to borrow them and pour over the details. She swears by The Reader Digest My Gardening Year and I’ve recently been going through it, it’s a good one

That’s great of you to promo CaliKim’s e book. I’ll go check it out. As a beginner, I picked up a few generalized gardening books on the cheap, that I found from yard sales. I like the Better Homes and Gardens Complete guide to Gardening as a quick reference because it includes limited info on a vast variety of plants organized by veg, herbs, annuals, perennials, trees. Now, I’m interested in purchasing the Square foot gardening book, because I keep hearing so much reference to it, and it would be a great quick reference for spacing. Also, interesting is the Straw-bale gardening book, a method I’ve done with good results. I’ve heard tell you can use hay bales too, but choose straw if you have a choice.

Hi Luke – thanks so much for the shout out – so happy to hear that you enjoyed my eBook, and learned from it too! In my eBook, I go into in detail on quick, simple and inexpensive gardening tips, how-to’s for 5 warm weather veggies, more detail than I have time to do in my videos. This way folks have it all written down to take out in the garden with them, and can refer to it often.
I also have the Vegetable Garden Problem Solver – one of my fav resources as well!
I have her and love it!! I use it as a reference book all the time!!!

I am 60 years old and will not stop learning. I am in the Master Gardeners program now in Chatt TN. Loving it. I have gardened for a lot of years. I have become a certified Straw Bale Gardener and have presented that concept at one of the MG mtg and I am listed as a speaker and demo at the next TN Master Gardener EXPO. Because of physical limitation in my current career grooming dogs for the last 45 years, I have decided to shift careers. I am in the process of turning our acre lot into a small Urban Farm, where I hope to be able to encourage others to garden. Thank you

I’m a bit of both, but I love books. I love to have a book in my hand when I need the information. It’s sort of a bummer that there’s nothing really for me written for North or South Dakota.

Spring gardening starts in October
For fellow Texas gardeners, get Neil Sperry’s "Complete Guide to Texas Gardening". (Neil Sperry.com). He’s an extremely knowledgeable Texas gardener, and he has an awesome, informative website as well. Gardening is a whole different animal down here.
Time to write your own book
Luke, thank you so much for these recommendations. A few weeks ago I watched a video of yours from a year or so ago where you recommended the Rodale’s Vegetable Garden Problem Solver. After watching that video I ordered the book. I was so impressed by it that I searched for other Rodale titles too. Since then I ordered the Rodale Book of Composting, The Organic Gardener’s Handbook of Natural Pest and Disease Control, and a 1970’s hardcover copy of The Encyclopedia of Organic Gardening. If I remember correctly, some of these books are now out of print, so I feel very fortunate to own them. Another great source for local information for your viewers may be their respective local county extension website or office. Here in Wisconsin there are a great deal of informative gardening documents available to download for free from the county extension websites.
Thanks Luke, you have not touched on this subject yet. Sometimes people like to have the knowledge in their hands and thumb through it. Sunset Magazine makes a great regional series of guides & books for the West/Pacific region. I love CaliKim and her channel!
