Thanks…got me thinking about one. How do you winterize this?

I love it when my neighbor turns on his fountain at night,
it puts me right to sleep.
I want one of my own but they seem SO complex to install.
But two simple piece? I’m game!
I got so many birds in my garden this year that I really want to provide them some local water source.
It gets so hot that I have to go inside every 20-30 minutes for a bit and drink loads of water to stay regular.
I can’t imagine the stress on my local wildlife.
3:30 Excellent tip to remember to bury it slightly raised accounting for soil build-up and mulch!
6:30 Good looking out for those smaller critters who still need to top off
I’m actually super excited for this project for next week!
I wanna build like 4 of these now though haha!

I love the pond . That looks so easy to do. I will have to make one . Thanks for the great idea. I Think that would add a wonderful touch to the garden area . I love birds too .

  5. Crafty Mom on September 21, 2021 at 2:09 am

Can I dump bird bath water into my compost? Poop, bugs, and all?

  6. MrRuberzahl on September 21, 2021 at 2:10 am

We might need to take up a collection for Scott to get some new boots. Or a roll of duct tape. I guess it depends on if those are still his comfy favorite boots?!?!

  7. Anna Gray on September 21, 2021 at 2:10 am

How would you clean a fountain like this?.. I have a bird bath that I have to clean every day because birds basically have pool parties in it 🙂

  8. Neldidellavittoria on September 21, 2021 at 2:13 am

Very good project. It’s pretty, it’s easy to do and easy on the budget too.
I believe you’ve got a cat, so I wouldn’t plant anything higher than 8-10 inches around. From experience I know my late Boris wouldn’t have missed a single bird.

  9. paintingtracey on September 21, 2021 at 2:14 am

    Is it safe for cats?

  10. Slawomir Chmielewski on September 21, 2021 at 2:14 am

Spraying this water isn’t the greatest idea where the conditions are perfect for legionella.

  11. Scott Meeks on September 21, 2021 at 2:14 am

Shared this video with my wife. She ordered a basin and I dug the hole. Lot of fun and 2 frogs have already moved in :). Thanks for the video.

  12. joeseatat on September 21, 2021 at 2:15 am

Looks great, but how do you clean it?
Our birdbath gets pretty gross after a few days.

  13. Oysterman on September 21, 2021 at 2:16 am

Looks good and it will look great when you’ve planted flowers around. Another good thing is that the birds, hopefully, wont pick on your tomatoes. Cheers

  14. AgFabric on September 21, 2021 at 2:16 am

Good job! Scott. Thanks a lot for sharing it.

  15. Kissy Face on September 21, 2021 at 2:16 am

Great project, Scott, though you did not address the obvious ongoing maintenance of cleaning and re-filling. It will still get funky like an unkempt bird bath.

  16. Al Dente on September 21, 2021 at 2:20 am

I have heard that the reason birds eat tomatoes is because they are thirsty and if you provide water near the garden they won’t eat the tomatoes. I have been planning to build a water feature before the tomatoes are mature.

  17. Mike’s Bees and Garden on September 21, 2021 at 2:20 am

That’s really nice. I have some water for my bees with rocks to land on but I may try this too.

  18. harringtonjune1 on September 21, 2021 at 2:22 am

I love the idea and want to do it. I have had bird baths in the past and within a few days the water gets dirty. Would your fountain basin need to be cleaned every week or so. Thank you for the video.

  19. Ramin Satyahadi on September 21, 2021 at 2:24 am

My wife & I have been wanting to have some kind of a water feature. This is a tremendous inspiration, so simple & inexpensive to do. The solar fountain is genius, it’s key to making it happen. I hope it’s available here. Thank you so much Scott🙏🙏

  20. Sharyn Fuller on September 21, 2021 at 2:24 am

I’m very excited about this new project – where do you get the solar fountains? I don’t see a link for it…thank you!

Thank you Scott! So sweet! I am considering this for my garden.

Great video…what part of Colorado are you in?? I’m really glad I found your channel. I really appreciate that you give links on where to buy your pumps etc. and I hope you do get commissions!! Stay safe, healthy & happy! Happy Memorial Day!!

  27. Sandy G on September 21, 2021 at 2:30 am

I love water features, but every project I’ve seen has been complicated, so I still don’t have one. This project looks like something I can do. Thanks for the great idea and the information on where to get the parts.

  28. habs4life41 on September 21, 2021 at 2:30 am

Love your channel, I don’t garden but your videos are knowledgeable and relaxing

  29. TNmtn Morning on September 21, 2021 at 2:33 am

I love how much you consider the animals 💜. I garden mostly for wildlife myself. The fountain looks lovely!

  30. Ian Stoll on September 21, 2021 at 2:34 am

Scott, you are the Bob Ross of gardening.

  31. L.John Morelli | Wedding + Event Films on September 21, 2021 at 2:35 am

Scott, this is something I’ve been planning in my head for months. Until then, for fun, just been using a large plastic planter tray. It gets filthy with bird poop almost daily. I have to tip it over and hose it out a lot, which is fine. I don’t see how you will easily clean this. What do you anticipate doing? Thanks

  32. Loretta Goff on September 21, 2021 at 2:37 am

Cute pond but I’m sure I’ve seen very shallow pans with marbles for the bees to land on. I don’t know if they’d be able to get a drink leaning in from the rock.

  33. Jeff Davis on September 21, 2021 at 2:37 am

Hi G.S, Great idea for the garden. I like the idea of it being solar operated as well. Nice video.

  34. AgathaVelvet on September 21, 2021 at 2:39 am

You made it look beautiful Scott. That big rock is really pretty. Your wildlife will have a hydrated summer thanks to you.

  35. Derek Borrego on September 21, 2021 at 2:39 am

This is awesome. I’ll definitely be building one for my garden.

  36. English Rose on September 21, 2021 at 2:40 am

This was so helpful. How do you keep your pond clean for the wildlife, without using chemicals?

  37. Craig Pearson on September 21, 2021 at 2:42 am

I built one like that a couple years ago and it was really relaxing listening to the water. The birds wouldn’t use it as a bird bath til the water got down to an inch or less. I’ve have since made one that uses a reservoir with a shallow tray on top to hold the water and the birds like it. There are videos on YouTube showing how to make them- maybe I should make a video next time I make one. The bees don’t mind the deep water, they just land on the rock and go up to the edge of the water and drink.

  38. laurie williams on September 21, 2021 at 2:43 am

Thanks Scott for your service to your country & thank you for dedicating your life to teaching others the joys of gardening. I live in Australia as I’ve mentioned before 🦘🦘🦘. I didn’t know these solar fountains existed. I will have to see where I can get one. You make it look so easy. I used to have several small trees around my garden, but they were cut down (not by me), where the small birds could fly from one to the other on their way to be hand-fed by me & when I had my set sprays going it would give them cover. Big THUMBS UP.

  39. Daniel Fisch on September 21, 2021 at 2:43 am

Very cool idea, thanks for sharing.

  44. paul edenbrow on September 21, 2021 at 2:53 am

Wonderful idea . Up until now I had no idea that there was such a thing as a solar fountain .
I also like your idea of the plastic tub for the reservoir . Neat .
Thanks , yet again , Scott

  45. RockinL7BuckingBulls on September 21, 2021 at 2:55 am

I had a beloved horse pass a few years ago. I planted some aspens in the area now I’m going to put in a fountain. Thanks for the idea.

  46. Amanda VHB on September 21, 2021 at 2:55 am

Its great! I have been thinking out adding a water feature. I love the solar fountain! I live in Eastern Washington and have lots of sun! I can’t wait to see what your fountain looks like with the plants you pick!

  47. Cyril Lartigue on September 21, 2021 at 2:57 am

Great video, I built this today and just finished it, minus the solar fountain- it’s a couple weeks out, I loved the idea so much

  48. Laura Chittenden on September 21, 2021 at 2:57 am

This looks like something I can do! But I don’t see the link to the solar fountain. Am I just missing it? Thanks!

  49. Julie Richardson on September 21, 2021 at 3:00 am

Did I miss the link to the pump?

  50. Ramin Satyahadi on September 21, 2021 at 3:00 am

I’d love to see how wildlife will be using it. Would you please do a follow up video on it? Also I would imagine maintenance and periodical cleaning. Thank you.
