IMO the "recommended" examples here are hideous. In much the way a little well-placed quiet lets us appreciate the music more, some night should be a part of night lighting. Turn off the glare and allow a little darkness in between lights!

  3. JaxPlanet on July 5, 2022 at 9:59 pm

Again, bashing solar lighting. He just doesn’t understand that there is a huge difference between the stand alone solar lights and setting up a powerful solar power source for all lights.

My transformers go out during storms how to stop replacing them. Help thanks

  6. mebrannon1 on July 5, 2022 at 10:07 pm

No bulb on a led. It’s a diode

  7. derper derp on July 5, 2022 at 10:09 pm

So do the lights need to be wired in?

  8. Richard Recupero on July 5, 2022 at 10:10 pm

Wait. Blue and white lights don’t match?

  9. West Haven OR on July 5, 2022 at 10:10 pm

Great advice on the color temperature. Can’t stand daylight (6500k) outdoor led lighting. Looks shrill and garish and is just painful to look at. 2700k to 3000k is what you want for a natural look.

  10. Debo Olayanju on July 5, 2022 at 10:12 pm

Your pictures looks like they are overexposed on what you call “good lighting” and underexposed on what you call bad lighting. The color of the sky tells me the exposure was cranked up if those photos were taken at the same time of day. This detracts from your message even if you are correct on the types of lamps to use.

  11. Its__alex on July 5, 2022 at 10:14 pm

The thing that is a little bit annoying about this is that its really expensive like i dont got like 1m dollars i only got like 1000 in my bank probably

  12. Reggie Cariou on July 5, 2022 at 10:16 pm

I have purchased random light sets and large transformers, Is there a service where I can share my landscape and get feedback on where to place what? I am very handy, but I don’t know what to use. Floods, spot, wall wash….. do you typically use 50w or 20w for trees? Thanks

  13. Joseph J on July 5, 2022 at 10:17 pm

3,000k minimum… got it. Cheers for the tip. 😉

  14. Michael Robb on July 5, 2022 at 10:18 pm

    The tips are great

  15. Clap Forboobies on July 5, 2022 at 10:18 pm

If you highlight a tree in the middle of the yard do you have to dig up the grass across the yard all the way to the transformer? WOuldnt that ruin the grass?

  16. Michael Twing on July 5, 2022 at 10:18 pm

I recommend you follow the dark sky movement and eliminate or reduce up lights period. Focus your business on safety path lights and subtle area lighting. Oh and “architectural lighting” is a bit more ego driven than landscape lighting.

  17. Christene Patti on July 5, 2022 at 10:20 pm

Interested in the large Solar Spot Light. What Brand is it?

  18. Skies n scenes on July 5, 2022 at 10:21 pm

im doing a solar enchanted woodland theme with my small garden, im not a home owner and may not live here for rest of my life,so solar is ideal to put amongst flowers, shrubbery etc

  19. xyzct on July 5, 2022 at 10:21 pm

Light YOUR property, not everyone else’s. No neighbor should be able to directly see your bulbs. Light pollution is selfish, rude, and illegal.

  20. Danny Dawson on July 5, 2022 at 10:22 pm

A second for dark sky-friendly landscape lighting. I’m designing my own because there are not enough professionals who care.

  21. Tabitha Jenkins on July 5, 2022 at 10:22 pm

So follow everybody else or its a mistake. Got it👍

  25. Chance Haugen on July 5, 2022 at 10:24 pm

Please call them lamps. Not bulbs…

  26. HHK Wandrer,Explorer on July 5, 2022 at 10:27 pm

    very informative and interesting video

  27. BigDuke6ixx on July 5, 2022 at 10:27 pm

Use low intensity solar LEDs. DO not use high intensity mains powered lights like these 1:27 because they disorientate creatures like moths who are very important nighttime pollinators. Don’t banish the night with these stupid light polluting landscape lighting ‘solution’.

Maybe somebody can tell me: why is it that when I watch a video and somebody is pointing over their shoulder and referring to another video, it’s not there? Is this due to my adblocker or something like that? I get this all the time.

Hello, looking for an LED strip light for tucking under the capstones of a retaining wall. There is a half inch overhang. Any affiliate link suggestions for strip / tape light options are appreciated. Subdued, warm white and not too many lumens – thanks!

  43. Al J on July 5, 2022 at 10:40 pm

You can buy different wattage of bulbs 5, 7 and 11 depending on what effect your looking for but remember Low Voltage Transformers have a max watt limit. So if you want ten 11 watt lights which is 110 watts and your transformer max is 100 watts that won’t work.

We use to have all wired lighting in our landscaping. But the weedeating caused a problem. Wires got destroyed. So instead of doing it all over we just went we solar. Makes it so much easier. We went with just the amount of lighting we wanted. Not to low and not to bright. We like it.

Very helpful, thank you! All your videos are great. One question thou: my concrete porch extends approx 8’ from house and Is 40’ long of 60’ total length, and has double window, single door and another double window on porch. How can I set lights so windows/door doesn’t look washed out?
