Indoor Kitchen Herb Container Garden and Seedlings Growing under LED Energy Saving Lights
John from http://www.growingyourgreens.com takes a field trip to Las Vegas to visit Jason’s House. Jason is growing in containers in his kitchen using fluorescent lighting and using Energy Saving LED Panel lights upstairs where he is starting seeds and growing seedlings.
Do you think I could cheap it out and use blue and red LED Christmas lights? What do you think?
sage
Shhhh!
@1111atreides I dont think that would work. Christmas lights are very low powered LEDs. Unfortunately with LEDs, the good ones are still pretty expensive. Hopefully they will come down in price in a few more years though.
After seeing your video I was determined to try the set up. I got lucky and happened to find a seed starter kit by Burpee that has the capillary mat! It’s a small kit(16 wells), for a beginner like me. After just four days there are sprouts! I’m glad I found it because I wanted to try out the capillary mat set up, but didn’t want to spend a lot of money.
He said it "wasn’t that expensive" well maybe for HIM. If anyone else is curious it’s a Standard Tabletop SunLite® Garden @ $249 per each!
Great set up he has growing there… Seems like a stand up guy as well!
This guy is really inventive. Awesome stuff.
this is a awesome video, you should make more of these for the city people who live in apartments, and LED light are really work and low cost to mantain
Much like soils true natural lights should be balanced as possible, you would be surprised what your plants can miss by using only red and blue spectrum.
Get a cannabis plant I there and call it sweet nettle no one will know lol….:)
Awesome I will finally create my indoor dream garden
@jakearick Hah, no they are health/fitness/bodybuilding magazines.
Did your PVC idea work out well (pushing the plant out later into a bed)?
Creative idea with the PVC and capillary mat. Did it work as you had hoped?
Where did you get the capillary mat?
Nice house.
that is excellent work
Everything he mentioned, from the lights and the schedule’s (how long they’re on), the flat white or mylar for reflection and his LED’s are all so identical to growing marijuana! Haha
Very interesting….
these are great. What I need to know is I have fish tanks and want to use them for planting herbs. Concern about watering ? Can you give me some helpful hints
Awesome system using the capillary mats with a small resevoir
Have you thought about how plastic from the pvc pipe and that mat thing could leech into soil and into the plant?
yea it would maximize the light
7:13 doesn’t seem interested at all.
I’m at 5:39 and I gotta say, guy if you read this, very intelligent and creative. Hats off man. Great work and exploratory nature like this contributes to the evolution of humanity, through you. HI five duder
I was wondering with the LED lights if mirrors around the outside would do any good ?
actually with any lights … What do you think ?
Really great video. These techniques would be fantastic for growers in cool areas!
haha, they’d got the stack for it. Great video and I’m astonished on how good the plants grow.
That guy has alot of free space upstairs.. I am betting he removed a couple plants from the rack before filming 😛
Hi John do you think there is a market for gardening indoors and selling to restaurants or small café shops?
Basically I would like to support my habit and make some extra money of growing indoors under my t5 lights, herbs to small business owners.
If you would like to see my setup please let me know I will be more than happy to send you pictures that way I can get your honest opinion
i bet these guys grow weed secretly
what brand of lights did he have up stairs
1:28 …. I can’t help but think that looks like a sack of some dank herb. kudos!
@ned262626 Yup CFL bulbs work fine. Many people use them as primary or supplementary lighting.
that dude totally had bud mags and and a bag of ganja by those plants…puff puff pass dude!
Thank for the video…question…how long do you have the lights on the herb plants…do you keep light on all day or do you keep it on for a certain time…like if you turn on light at 10am in the morning do you turn it off 10pm at night. Let me know..thanx again!..:-)
i’m from the philippines. people like you have inspired me to grow vegetables in my yard.
@BillyBones139 The PVC idea ended up working great, but it ended up keeping the soil a little too moist and i had a few plants that were damping off. I think in the future if I did it again, i’d find a way to give the pipe bottoms a little less contact with the capillary mat. I bought the capillary mat at LeeValley(dotcom). Its called the Root barrier capillary mat.
1:28, is that a weed bag?
Jason…… very interesting : )
Very nice setup.
Those LED’s really look like the way forward for this sort of project.
Jason needs his own channel!
Hey can I have some of the plants you didn’t show us? lol.
Haha the ones upstairs what about the attic it’s a cover up lol!,,
its because many plants are Photo-Periodic, which means they need a certain amount of day light and a certain amount of darkness to flower. A lot of plants grow a like, that means weed as well.
maybe he could do like a hydroponic thing with the water with a feed hose and return hose that feeds the water containers and he wouldn’t have to lift the plants up to fill with water or check it out to see if its empty plus add nutrients to the water from a floor tank.
John, you’ve certainly progressed over the years, I’ve been watching all your current video’s and quite enjoy them. , You don’t seem so happy 5 years ago…
why don’t you have spearmint
i have the same light hanger for my clones..great starter kit!
Thank you for your video) What white kind of LED lamps do you use, 2700, 4000 or 6400k?
