What a great video. I’ve taken your advise on many herbs. I must state the only one I can’t seem to grow is cilantro. I’m gonna try the paper towel method. Many blessings to you.

  3. Keven Jones on November 9, 2021 at 12:26 pm

so for indoor growing you cant just get a potting mix, you have to have an indoor mix? ive just been using regular potting soil mix not an indoor one, should i be worried about bugs and switch it out?

great video! thank you for all the wonderful information. I’m excited to try it this winter. Do you recommend using grow bags for the indoor herbs?

  12. Vida on November 9, 2021 at 12:39 pm

  13. lolly Hurt on November 9, 2021 at 12:40 pm

Thank you. My daughter is anew gardener that doesn’t like to ask mom 😊. I shared it with her. If she doesn’t want one during winter, I’m sure it’ll be helpful in the spring. Wisconsin is a very cold state

  14. moon back on November 9, 2021 at 12:45 pm

Great video! Quick question though from a brand new gardener… did you put a liner or anything in those buckets where you had your herbs? Or did you just fill them up with soil? I would love to know where you got those buckets and that tray too! Thanks

  15. Stephanie F on November 9, 2021 at 12:46 pm

The snow storm killed my rosemary in Feb (Arkansas usually doesn’t get a week of snow!!) But I had cuttings inside. Now her babies are thriving again outside… will probably bring a few cuttings inside to propagate for just in case🥰

We are in U.S. Zone 4a Our parsley has come back every year for the past 6 years. The dill has spread from its raised bed to the yard and the edge on the driveway. You should smell that after I mow lol! I think the original seed was planted 8 years ago. I started sage this past spring from seed. The seed came from Italy and is supposed to be good to minus 30 degrees F. It was from the Piedmont area. I had started the same seed many years ago and the plants lasted about 15 years then they died out. I took cutting off my 2 rosemary shrubs to save buying them again. I hope it works…never have done it before. I did 6 rose bush cutting too for my wife…we’ll see how that turns out too. A Huge thumbs up for this vid. I always enjoy your knowledge. Take care!

Another great video ty. Starting my indoor adventures tomorrow. Other than cover crops do you do anything special to put pots & beds to rest for winter?

  19. Jonathan Lee on November 9, 2021 at 12:53 pm

Herbs have quickly became my favorite kind of plants.

  20. Jeff on November 9, 2021 at 12:53 pm

I do the "single file" method with my indoor herbs. For things like dill & cilantro I do succession planting so I’ve always got a pot or two ready to use.
Basil is a great indoor plant that keeps producing over & over. When the plants get 5-6 sets of leaves I top off the upper 3 sets & put those into a cup of water to sprout. Those become my next crop of basil plants. Lather, rinse, repeat for endless basil…and pesto, which is easy to make & stores in the freezer indefinitely. 😋

Jeff, ever wonder why so many gardeners watch your videos? They get results! You are indeed a public servant! More please.

  22. Bonnie S on November 9, 2021 at 12:57 pm

Thanks for the great detailed info. I plan on growing some herbs in my south- facing kitchen window this winter. I’m planning on using a clip-on single “stem” grow light to supplement the weak winter sunlight. I’ll try to root cuttings from my outdoor thyme and oregano and seed the rest. Now to figure out which containers to use.

  32. Lila Lindholm on November 9, 2021 at 1:13 pm

Thanks Jeff, lots of great information here. I did try rooting my rosemary in water but it didn’t work. I’ll try again in soil this time. Wish me luck.

Awesome video! Thanks for all the encouragement!

  35. Michaela Timciska on November 9, 2021 at 1:19 pm

Love this video. You’re so clear at explaining the process. I love how you’re bringing oregano back. 😁 I cook with it all the time. One herb that I just couldn’t find at any nursery is MARJORAM. It is a staple in my Slovak kitchen…but I just cannot find it at any nursery for several years now. So I have tried to grow it myself…without success. This year I had a great outdoor container herb garden…except for my marjoram. I have tried to grow it indoors…Also no success. I have the grow lights on a timer, the soil, the drainage…U mean you are a great teacher…BUT! NO SUCCESS. Argh…it is my favourite spice….what am I missing?

  36. Alicia Weber on November 9, 2021 at 1:20 pm

Would parsley be grown in the same way as cilantro? Seeded heavily?
