I just tested the viability of the seeds in wet paper towel. About 80% of seeds sprouted
It remains to start growing lettuce from seed in seedling tray.
What would be the recommendation for the sprouts we end up with from testing the seed viability?
Would it be appropriate to use these sprouts in the seedling tray?

Help!Struggling with carrots no sprouting.
Question, How do you correct lighting problems? I have a corner with two large windows where I place my plants to grow on shelves, but over the years, I noticed long leggy plants. Someone said that I should add more calcium. It does help, but still not the best.

I viewed your series of videos (wonderful job) and I have a few questions. The tomato seeds that I purchased have an expiration date of one year. Why?? In your experience, have you successfully germinated seeds after the expiration date?? I have fluorescent (F15) lights, for plant and aquarium, approximately 11 inches over the 72 cell seed starting trays with dome. I planted Jan. 4 and germination started Jan. 15. I followed your instructions carefully, thank you. Can I turn-off the lights at times; or should the lights be on all the time?? Please advise.
Do i pat the seed starting medium after i drop the seed into the hole and cover it with another layer of seed starting mix? Or will that choke the seed out and create an anaerobic environment? Sorry it’s my first time growing and I’m just a bit paranoid

Great information thank you. When I have multiple seeds in a plug and they are going directly in the garden, I put the plug in a bowl of water and I find that the roots are less disturbed and are well hydrated going in.
What about a grow light?

Norm, here. Sir, great video! Question: I can germinate seeds like a wizard. Even peppers. I can grow my seedlings to wonderful plants for transplanting to my garden. But, that stage between germination and seedling with first set of TRUE leaves (not cotyledons), I struggle with. So many of my germinated seeds die. Some die of damping off. Too wet. So, I let dry out more, and a day later — dead because the soil dried out. Online guides say to let the top dry, then water when needed….great; how do you know when that is? Top is dry, so I water, plants die of damping off. I DON’T water when top is dry, and the starter pod dries out and they die from lack of water. The soil does not dry out evenly. Sometimes one cell is dry and the next is wet!! So Frustrated! Guides also say to check moisture 2" deep, then water if dry — that’s a garden test, not a seed pot test! One site said to use a chop stick — very silly. Another place said to use a moisture tester; again, o.k. for garden but not a seed starting cell. So, How Do YOU know when to water the cells after germination between the germination and seedling stage? Norm
