Beautiful fountain but poor design with regards to pump access for maintenance or any type of replacement great thinking to salvage a great looking fountain, I see so many of these turned into empty flowerpot statues because of the stuff you had to fix and redesign the people just never put water in them again so sad.

Helped me out a lot. I have a old fountain and didn’t know how to get the plug through the small opening, so you explained there’s a connector I can purchase. Awesome. Now, how does the tubing work above to the tier? I’ll fumble through fine. The enclosure for the pump separates from the tier, but 37 years later it had crumbled, so I found a sturdy ceramic stucco type planter the same size and color as a replacement. Might need to make a cement replacement. Thank you.

I came across in researching how to repair a fountain pump. This helped tremendously, but I took one further. In the space were the plug used to be I inserted a water line to refill the pump from the sprinkler system.

Kind of lengthy here- To cover the rectangular hole:
    1) Get four 1" X 1/4" or so sticks. Make a best guess as to the dia of the fountain base.
    2) Fasten the sticks together in a square with the fountain base going through the center of the square. Hold the sticks together with those spring clamps found in every big box store.
    3) Keep adjusting the clamps until the "front" side (pick any side you like) distance between sticks is EXACTLY the same as the "back" side. You have now "put a round peg in a square hole".
    4) The distance between the two sides is the precise diameter of the base.
    5) If you are lucky. the dia will be EXACTLY the ID of a sono tube.
    6) More than likely, you will have to create a "compass" to draw the circumference of the base.
    7) Cut "ribs" from !/4" plywood (or other medium of youre choice)
    8) Use these ribs to form door skin to the proper contour. Fasten the door skin with nails or staples and glue. When the glue is dry, remove the nails.
    9) Reduce your compass size by 3/4" or 1" or whatever size you want the wall thickness to be
    10) Make ONE rib, and glue it to the bottom of your original outside wall of the mold, to create the mold bottiom
    11) Using nails, staples, or whatever, conform doorskin to the bottom rib to create the Inside wall of the replacement.
    12) Use strips to hold the top of the inner wall in place. Use door skin for the side walls. Glue and staple, then remove staples after glue is dry (or not)
    13) Mix up mortar and a bit of "plastic cement", and some white concrete coloring (or grind up a whitish paver to get the color)
    14) Line the inside of your mold with plastic shopping bag material. For a really smooth finish, use a VERY light coat of Dollar Tree caulk as a "glue to hold the plastic firmly to the sides.
    15) Fill the mold, let it cure, remove the mold, paint if necessary, and you are done in less than 6 hours of work! Simple, Huh?

Nice work John. Two questions please? I am about to repair our fountain, installing a new submersible pump. I was wondering what to use to waterproof the power cord seal. I see the adhesive you used and will look for that in HD or the other big box store. I am hoping not to cut the new cord – seeing your repair makes it possible to make the connection if I need to cut. John, can you refer me to a name or website that offers that waterproof cord connector please? I want to have it on hand should I need to go in that direction. Thank you. Again, well done. Your fountain looks great!

I already have access to defective pump I am wondering about the effectiveness of the waterproof connectors in that I could just do that and replace the pump. My question is a safety issue because that connection will be submerged. The fountain is at my church. Kids may stick their fingers in the water.

Just what I was looking for! I have a fountain that has its pump hard wired and the pump failed. I want to move the fountain to the front yard and use an extension cord. What kind of wire did you use between the plug and fountain? Where can I buy the water proof connectors? Thank you!

I was looking for some help with my fountain and found you, great video and looks like you did an outstanding guide. I also watched your connector video which I ordered just a moment ago which will help me attach our fountain to the house through a wire that I found when planting a palm tree. The people that built this house had a fountain I come to find out. And with your connectors being used I dont have to use an outlet but use a direct line to the house, controlled by fuse box in garage. We purchased this great home in oct 2015 and as a retired manager I am finding out how to save a lot of money by watching all the info on youtube and you have now helped me also. My only problem was building the fountain in the front yard, pretty heavy for an old guy but got it done. Thankyou again for your great videos, which I have now subscribed too. Maybe you can help me keep this home up to par here in northern florida…don’t suppose you know a rain dance because I don’t think we have had any this month of March and only 3 days left.
