Love this! I like your design, and can’t wait to see how it grows. No sage? I am also wondering..how much sun does that area get throughout the year? I would love to have a kitchen herb garden, and wondering if I can get away with less light!

    Great suggestions

  7. Brittany Herz on August 1, 2021 at 8:36 pm

Yay herbs! Thanks for the video. I got excited and started some and hardened them off just before that last big heat wave in CA and they made it through! Already harvesting my parsley and chives grown from your seeds. 😊 I want to plant dill from your seed collection too – do you think it gets too tall to put in a Smart Pots rail saddle planter? I worry they’ll flop over.

    Thank you for this video!!

Great choices for the herb garden.

  10. Pamela Loya on August 1, 2021 at 8:38 pm

Hey, can you help out!!! Am I supposed to transfer them into a larger container before putting them outside in the garden or??? If so, how long are they supposed to wait in the larger container before planting them out in the garden?

How you like this weird Cali weather. We had on shorts just last week. Now it’s jeans and jackets just days later. Smh

I just planted my herb garden on Saturday 🙌🏾!! I want to purchase the good dirt fertilizer but the shipping is so high. Do any of you know another liquid organic fertilizer that is high in nitrogen like Good Dirt’s?

  15. Marsha Balderrama on August 1, 2021 at 8:45 pm

Hi Kim. I have tried getting Good Dirt but it doesn’t sell at my Target. Or any store in my area🙄 do you know of a link I can get it from?

  16. Patricia Jaramillo on August 1, 2021 at 8:45 pm

Hello. Great video. I got my seeds that I ordered from Calikim yesterday. Definitely will plant herbs. Planted indoors lavender for the winter. I know not an herb but any tips for growing. I want to tranplant it outside next year. Getting colder in western NY. Still have lettuce and carrots growing. Next will grow microgreens inside and cilantro. Thanks.

  17. Black Pack Homestead Chris and Marella Ogden on August 1, 2021 at 8:46 pm

MS. Kim has been busy! You got all your garden cleaned up nice. Time to fill those spaces up with something tasty.

If you could only have one herb what would it be?

  18. F F on August 1, 2021 at 8:47 pm

What plant do you have cut back For the winter in your herb garden? Also can I dig up my basil and transplant into a pot indoors for winter?

  19. Ellen Kuang on August 1, 2021 at 8:47 pm

I was just planning on seeding new herbs today since it’s supposed to have sporadic showers today. Also, garlic chives are a must in homemade dumplings/potstickers!

  20. Vee on August 1, 2021 at 8:47 pm

I have a huge Rosemarie plant it’s about 5 yrs old but I love it including pollinator, right now I have many more herbs in containers mint, dill, mejorana, parsley, sage, thyme, cilantro and I want to keep adding many more ☺️

  21. Catherine Kirk on August 1, 2021 at 8:48 pm

I started rosemary from seed. I only got about 30% of the seeds to germinate. Now that I have some plants going I hope I can propagate them from cuttings easier.

Also, Mac is such a good boy.

  22. Ke Le on August 1, 2021 at 8:50 pm

I used to grow a lot of herbs. I hope to do so again. I’ve never had luck overwintering any of them (can’t do it inside). But now that my NJ location is rated zone 7, I’ll give it another try, protected by a cold frame that I hope to make following the instructions of Jame Prigioni. I had no idea that I should break up cilantro seeds! Great tips! Thank you!

  24. Steven Dowden on August 1, 2021 at 8:52 pm

lovely video i enjoy growing herbs

  25. April Tahe on August 1, 2021 at 8:53 pm

I actually had a rather easy time germinating thyme from seed. I kept it covered with garden fabric that keeps the weeds out and it germinated I want to say less then a week like probably no more than 3-4 days. But I had it in a bad location so it didn’t make it and have to replant.

  26. Kim Carpenter on August 1, 2021 at 8:53 pm

I live in Indiana and just moved a lot of my herbs which were in pots indoors to a plant stand. If my south facing window doesn’t give them enough sun I might get a grow light.

Nothing better than herbs in the garden – in my opinion. And so easy to grow! A wonderful video for new and experienced gardeners.

I have rooted 2 kinds of oregano, basil and sweet mint and growing it inside beautifully. I have had a first time garden grow beyond my expectations with the unpredictable upstate NY weather…….but I cannot grow chives or spinach outside or indoors.. what the heck😂

Hey Kimba, thought I’d tell you as one of your "poster boys" (I’ve followed Kim’s advice all year), my garden was being dessimated by leaf miners, every plant I have except herbs . I used your Neem/Peppermint Oil last week and not one single leaf since has been chewed by leaf miners. Amazing results, thanks my friend. Tommy

  48. The Nakid Gardeners on August 1, 2021 at 9:21 pm

These are some easy herbs that we grow each year. This was our first year having swallowtail cats on our dill. It was fun to watch them go to work and then turn into butterflies.

    thanks for sharing.

  49. Denise Brady on August 1, 2021 at 9:22 pm

Kim I grow all my own herbs & vegetables, my herb garden is so prolific – I dry all of my herbs & grind them up for rubs etc- my family & neighbors love it. I have a rosemary bush that I started probably 15yrs ago from a tiny seedling I purchased, it is now probably 5ft tall & has spread about 12ft & has actually become a hedge ( amazing ) but beautiful. Cheers Denise- Australia

Look at you getting all set up with a soon to be tasty herb garden Kim! Up this way there are are 5 inches of snow with a light snow still falling. If you were thinking that 12 degrees sounds about right, you would be spot on! Below zero tonight. Soon to be starting a few herb plants inside here, one I fetch some planters from under the snow. Happy Gardening! -Bob…
