I have a Hoya that I’m pretty sure my mom tried to root in water 15 years ago – i have it now and it blooms every year for me 🙂. It smells awesome
Oh, it’s still in water and has tons of roots 😊

  18. Mark Lewis on January 15, 2022 at 6:32 pm

Hmpf… Make an octopuses garden… now that would impress me.

  19. mlm2167 on January 15, 2022 at 6:33 pm

A lot of those are aquarium plants…so I actually treat the water to get rid of chlorine…it doesn’t evaporate as readily as you think 😆 you could run the water through the charcoal without putting it in gravel. You need some aquatic planting tools I think 💭 it would help 🤷🏻‍♀️ neat ideas ☝🏽 I would put all that in a planted 🙏🏼👍🏽🙋🏻‍♀️tank

  25. emiley miller on January 15, 2022 at 6:39 pm

You want something that is going to fertilize as they grow I’ve owned fish tanks for several years and had lots and lots of aquatic plants fluval makes a fertilizing substrate that helps your plants grow as they’re in the tank you can add rocks or pebbles on top of it if you don’t like the look of it.. I wouldn’t recommend putting fish. But I have done a really cool oversized fish bowl and turned it into an aquatic sanctuary for a betta fish.. but with that I was doing 50% water changes every week and it had a small tiny filter was also connected to CO2 You can get away with it if you know what you’re doing.. and I had to pre-establish the tank before I even put a fish in there.. it took some time a couple of months actually.. there is a science to it but it can be done and eventually took the Betta out because it was too much of bio-load on the tank but I did eventually turn it into a shrimp tank and it is still running to this day with shrimp in it

  26. neide fajardo on January 15, 2022 at 6:39 pm

    Aí que mó

  27. AnimeShinigami13 on January 15, 2022 at 6:40 pm

You should have a look at things to do with fertilization schedules. I know my houseplants at home don’t use very many nutrients in the winter and can accumulate a lot of fungus gnats and aphids if I’m not careful. I never use store bought fertilizer in the winter. The most I do is put straw from the pet store in the bottom of a pot to discourage erosion. What’s a bigger risk with fertilizer is a pest called Shore Flies (S. Stagnalis). Shore flies don’t pose a pathogen risk to humans but are unsightly and leave brown marks all over. They’re also resistant to pesticide. Algae is explicitly mentioned as their food of choice but they can also eat bacteria. Algae spores can be carried into a home via old pipes. A good indicator that this is the entry route is to check for biofilm when you clean your bathtub or sink. Biofilm is created by bacteria. A pink film indicates a bacteria that consumes iron and is frequently found in old pipes so odds are good if you have that you could be getting algae in too.

Take it from someone who has been battling a shorefly infestation for a few years now, they are not fun. Limit your fertilizer use in the winter or learn how to tell when your plant needs fertilizing and you can reduce your risk.

If you really like growing plants in water, check out the betta cube from back to the roots, which allows you to incorporate fish into that water garden and is large enough for cooking herbs or small leafy green plants. Bettas may be able to live in a large enough water garden, but there’s two things to be wary of. Bettas are aggressive loners with good visual acuity who hunt bugs. Because of that; 1. they don’t like other bettas nearby and can see other tanks in the room with them. 2. They also have a tendency to jump to try and catch flying insects. They eat mosquitoes and flies near the surface of the water and were originally bred to keep mosquitoes out of rice paddies. Somebody just realized they could breed them to fight and make bets on the winner and that they could be bred to be very colorful. So don’t put two betta tanks close together and make sure there’s a cover on water gardens with bettas in them. That way you don’t get them jumping either for joy or to conclusions that they need to attack that Betta in the jar next to theirs. XD Seriously, I’d bet they might even bash themselves to death on the glass.

  34. Joanna Diaz on January 15, 2022 at 6:49 pm

3:33 why not reuse the water already used for the plant? Please be mindful of your overconsumption.

  35. Deb Cobern on January 15, 2022 at 6:50 pm

Sludge destroyer isn’t for algae. Its for dead leaves that start to decay on the bottom of the pond or container, in this instance.

  36. Michael Keele on January 15, 2022 at 6:52 pm

Quite a few miss information here. The ones potted up in the fiber-wool needs to be removed from the fiber-wool. Java ferns and some other species are aquatic “air plants” if you will, and have to be mounted to something and not planted or they will die and melt away.

  37. I755o on January 15, 2022 at 6:53 pm

Caution! Never rinse a plant roots that contains perlite in a sink without a drain net. Those little white volcanic rocks will cause plumbing issues.

  38. Google User on January 15, 2022 at 6:53 pm

These are so beautiful like fish bowls without the fishes which are much better ‘cus I am really bad at keeping the fishes alive. There are some comments below warning people not to put fish in these containers. Need not worry about me. I will absolutely not put fish in them. I’m not sure if I can keep the plants alive let alone the fishes. 😄

  39. Yo-yo on January 15, 2022 at 6:53 pm

  40. marie l on January 15, 2022 at 6:54 pm

How do you deal with the insects or mosquitos growing in the water?

  41. Mira Novak on January 15, 2022 at 6:55 pm

Já dávám dospodu substrát. Zlepší se tím růst.

  42. onewaschrista on January 15, 2022 at 6:57 pm

How many tanks of water do I want around my home? Does this method not attract pests? To clean these, how would you do so without dismantling the entire display?

It’d have been interesting if the host had any prior experience with the technique instead of literally just placing it together to see how the foliage would hold up over time. You can see the oxygen bubbles on the tallest, indicating it was made right before filming.

Extra points for impracticality, inept sizing, planting and care instructions.

  47. Roxana Madari on January 15, 2022 at 7:04 pm

I have a snail in my jar which helps keep the water and the glass clean so I don’t have to get everything out and clean every time.

  48. murphy borges on January 15, 2022 at 7:08 pm

Why not just get a planted aquarium would look beautiful and also can keep some small fish in there
    WARNING
One thing about java fern and also about anubias plants they are not to be put in soil u can just tie it to rock. Reason being they are rhizome plants which takes nutrients from the water column.
There are other plants like amazon swords, cryptocoryne and also aponogeton crispus these plants require a nutritious substrate or u can get some gravel and use root tabs.
