How to Make a PVC Pipe Herb Garden – Thrift Diving

How to Make a PVC Pipe Herb Garden – Thrift Diving

Did you know with just a few tools, PVC pipe, and plywood you can make a vertical herb garden that can be hung outside, but also brought inside to hang on your wall when it gets cold? Here’s how you do it. πŸ™‚ It’s only 8″ wide so when hung vertically, it takes up very little space. Now you can have herbs all year round–indoors AND outdoors. πŸ™‚

Materials list is on the blog post: https://thriftdiving.com/herb-garden-planter-pvc-pipe/

Cost for PVC and wood = $30 (minus the soil and plants). All other materials I had on hand!

Great idea and beautifully crafted ….but it should be deeper to hold more soil, those plants are never going to thrive in such a small reservoir!! Thanks

Hi. I learned that that writing on PVC the labeling it can be removed with a light sandpaper 😊 very fine grain. Hope that helps somebody. 😊

It’s a great idea, well done. There’s a critical problem with the way you’ve done this though, you only varnished the inside. The outside was un-varnished as far as I could see? If that’s the case, then the moist dirt is going to be sitting against the outside of that wood, in addition to inside of the drainage holes which I don’t think were varnished either?

Water will soak into that wood really quickly, around your varnish. I expect the paint will eventually start to bubble and peel off to reveal dark and rotting wood.

Besides that, it’s an excellent idea, and it looks great.

Soil ! Wow, you used the word soil. That is so right. Thankyou.

I am from India, were were call our country Bharat Mata.
Bharat is the actual ancient name of India ..and Mata means mother.
We NEVER call the soil of our mother dirt.

Dirt, is what many in your country call the part of mother earth that grows the food that keeps you alive!!!!

  25. Mizo Mint on January 10, 2022 at 5:54 pm

I won’t be making this…. However, I enjoyed watching the entire thing and even more than the planter, I enjoyed seeing a mother spend time with her children doing something like this other than abandoning them to video games 24/7. lol I’m sure they will remember this and they probably learned so much. I bet they’ll be awesome young men when they get older with such an awesome mother that spends time with them.

Hi Serena, this is a great idea – love it. I purchased some seeds from the Dollar Tree last month. I got chives, parsley, basil and thyme. I will have to wait until I can get out to get containers and soil. I would love to have one like this one☺. Your boys worked right alongside you doing a great job. Stay safe. Wishing you and your family a blessed and Happy Easter❀
