  2. Silvox Thresher on December 18, 2021 at 4:18 pm

Curious if a year on your choice for use of peat moss is still prevalent or if you’re moving on to using more coir

  3. Carmella Yates on December 18, 2021 at 4:19 pm

I went to Lowe’s last week for perlite and they only had perlite with fertilizer in it . Is there a place that I can order just regular perlite on line ? I don’t drive far from home

  4. Yoriichi on December 18, 2021 at 4:19 pm

Did you use compost only mix with perlite and peat moss nothing more?.

  5. Kerry Williamson on December 18, 2021 at 4:22 pm

Have you ever grown sweet corn in these containers? I am thinking of giving that a go this Summer.

  6. Kaeben on December 18, 2021 at 4:23 pm

I tried all summer to do container gardening on my patio. I didn’t do very well, but I learned a lot. I’m going to start over as soon as springtime arrives.

hey instead of adding your top dress to more soil add it to worm castings to feed the microbes in the soil. Check out a product called Recharge. since youre in containers you need to add microbes to help break down biological material.

  14. Hosh Multinational on December 18, 2021 at 4:43 pm

this is nice, but am in Nigeria i believe our soil texture are different. How do i go about it

  15. FBI Surveillance Van on December 18, 2021 at 4:44 pm

I do this exact thing, but I often put newspaper at the bottom over the holes and put a layer of river rock over that… and then the dirt. Not sure why I use the rocks…. but the news papers keeps the water from eroding the soil as quickly.

  16. ADESINA SALAM on December 18, 2021 at 4:45 pm

Red Malabar Spinach is called "Efo Amunututu’ in my tribe, Yoruba, Nigeria . it is of 2 types the green and the red type. I am happy to see it on your channel. I am impressed.

  18. FaustieMo on December 18, 2021 at 4:46 pm

Oh no, I just grew veggies for an entire season using this perlite. I should have read that very fine print. Is all of my container soil bad forever or would it wash away? What would you all do with this soil?

  19. Skylar Newton on December 18, 2021 at 4:46 pm

Beginner here…when you are talking about the perlite, why is the enriched with miracle grow one a bad thing?

  20. Abraham Hempel on December 18, 2021 at 4:46 pm

Great video! I moved to Vegas and it’s sooo hot here. Haven’t been able to grow much. I’m starting over with white buckets. Using all your pointers.

I do need help with an organic way of stopping bugs from eating my peppers. Any recommendations?

  26. Cathy Tup on December 18, 2021 at 4:50 pm

I don’t know what Lowes you go too but there are NO FOOD GRADE 5 gal buckets at Home Depot or LOWES! They are so much more expensive than you portray.

  27. Jeff Scott on December 18, 2021 at 4:50 pm

If you dont have any compost. Can you use. Dried. Leaves

  34. MILDRED PIERCE on December 18, 2021 at 4:56 pm

I’m so glad you mentioned food grade buckets. I had no idea there was such a thing and I was going to use just any ol’ 5 gallon bucket.

    Thanks

  35. Sernie Lyn on December 18, 2021 at 4:57 pm

I wish i can grow plants in containers. Cause i have a very small space

  36. Joe Pebworth on December 18, 2021 at 4:58 pm

@1:33 Black pots are definitely bad even up here in Minnesota and North Dakota. I recommend white.

  37. Disent Design on December 18, 2021 at 4:58 pm

hmmm, your "patio" looks a lot like a big back yard….

  38. Lectric Kitty on December 18, 2021 at 5:02 pm

I like to cut large holes in the sides of the buckets and line them with weed fabric to hold the soil in. This prevents plants from becoming root-bound.

  39. Robert Rohde on December 18, 2021 at 5:05 pm

What’s up James. Robert here from San Francisco. Newbie with a brown thumb ready to dive into gardening with a goal to start a salsa garden. Not a lot of room. Thinking about starting with a small bucket garden before graduating to a raised bed. Stumbled to your page and inspired. Thanks

  40. Anita Kinnear on December 18, 2021 at 5:05 pm

  41. shonshyne on December 18, 2021 at 5:06 pm

Would it be ok to sit the pots directly on the concrete?

  42. Silvana Moise on December 18, 2021 at 5:07 pm

I could watch your gardening all day

  43. thegiftlady1 on December 18, 2021 at 5:08 pm

Excellent vid! TY. I grow on my deck and place my pots and grow bags with water hog plants like toms, cucs ‘n squash in cat litter boxes so they get wet to the roots & can self wick, this also allows the drained water with nutrients to wick back up. (Dollar Tree and they are in their 3rd year with no wear or cracking). Easy to control the amount of rain water, if needed just tilt to empty. I’ve been doing this 3 yrs now very successfully.
My herbs and other plants are on 1" tall school lunch trays, more shallow and also working very well (Restaurant Supply).

I know food grade buckets are best but my area is out. Ive got about 25 full of plants. Can I use regular buckets? I’ve got plants that need to go in buckets and can’t find food grade. Hopefully someone sees this and can answer

  45. DD Stewart on December 18, 2021 at 5:09 pm
