Basil, oregano, and thyme planted close to your tomatoes and you have a wonderful salad scent as you wander in your garden. Of course tomatoes and basil are annuals, but a must have in summer.

What is your opinion on GMO seeds? Should I try and find a internet site that sells GMO free seeds?

I’m with you on this. I am going to plant things we use a lot in the kitchen. I did buy some Summer Savory, just to try it out and to see how we like it. Love your channel, very informative. TFS!

Most of my next upcoming garden will be herbs- in WA they say bring Rosemary in I never do and it thrives! My spearmint adores the old esp a good freeze and I am especially pleased with how fast my herbs re-grow t the first hint of Spring. Thyme in the many varieties continues to be a favorite. I love that hardiness, beauty and sometimes daintiness in certin herbs-and there are so many to choose from. My parsley does grow year round.

Marigolds are a pretty good insect repellant too. I learned this in a gardening class and tried it. I surrounded my herb garden with it. We had little white flies or something hovering over the garden until I planted them and then they went away. The pests are minimal compared to last year without the Marigolds.

So while trying to plant herbs i have noticed that the packets always say something like 4" up to 15" spacing between plants. I have *never* seen this! Like your chives are suggested to be 4" per plant. So apparently these suggestions are pretty ignorable?

do you like straw mulch or wood ships best?

  21. OriginalRipndip on October 5, 2021 at 8:35 am

Should I try super oxygenated water……it’s labeled H2O2 and it’s available in health stores. It’s very dangerous UNTIL you dilute it with water. But i hear plants love it. Also tap water or filtered?

probably should have used your clippers/scissors to snip the chives into smaller bits and then blended them.  More water too, to get the blades better purchase on the chives.  My favorite herb is Tarragon and I like cutting off extra sprigs and drying them in the house.  when you walk by them the they fill the air with their scent for weeks.  I use tarragon in a creamy mushroom sauce that I put over steaks or on potatoes.

  23. Chikokishi on October 5, 2021 at 8:47 am

Sure! Most herb packets suggest planting plants 4-15" apart (depending on the plant). But i always see herbs bunched together like your chives, which have a recommended spacing of 4" per plant. Are these spacing requirements ignorable?

  24. garfieldsnape on October 5, 2021 at 8:48 am

The first plants i have had are sage, parsley (they are both alive and well) and mint which keeps disappearing due to the rain we’ve been having in my area but the mint keeps coming back 🙂

I live in South Fl. and there are lots og bugs and pests that attack plants.. Is there a way to protect and keep the plants away and free of these insects without using quemicals or pesticides?

For some reason I can’t respond directly to the Earth Box question below, but my answer is that while I like the box itself is okay, the potting mix and fertilizers they include are junk. Better to replace it with an organic potting mix and broad-spectrum organic fertilizer.

just discovered your website, great stuff!

I really love what you’re teaching, but the quality of filming makes it unbearable to watch. Find some better techniques, a tripod, some stabilization using software, or get a photography buddy. But thanks anyways.

any thoughts  on  using  an Earth Box  for  growing herbs?

  31. donHooligan on October 5, 2021 at 9:00 am

mint in a pot, cilantro, and oregano or marjoram…they’re all pretty hardy.
