Hey! I’ve had a bunch of requests to share what we do with our garden, so I wanted to share. =) As far as the DIY’s, I will keep you updated on how they go.. =) Transplanting is the easiest way to go, but if you nail seed starting, it can be a great way to start a garden also. =)

Your citrus is buried too deep. You need to see the root flare. This is a reason it’s not looking as healthy. Just FYI
Just a heads up, you plant your seeds way too deep. When you plant a seed you should read how deep to plant them on the back of the packet. 4-6 weeks is crazy. Seeds sprout out of the ground in 2-10 days.

I worry about the ink with the newspapers so I tend to avoid that particular trick….I use the first method a lot but instead of getting jiffy strips, I use egg cartons 😂😂, we buy a lot of eggs so I just recycle that!!!

You can buy moss for starting seeds works better and faster for roots.
Mint can become a pest if not kept in check.
😄 it started with just a few houseplants. This affair exploded into 100 and growing houseplants. Then at some point I branches off into planting veggies.

you don’t nessisarly need seed starting soil… i planted some thyme, parsley, and sage seeds in a mix of compost and potting soil and they grew nice and fast… grant it they are on a radiator so they get heat and they’re by a window… but seed starter soil isn’t needed imo
Rosemary will grow into a huge bush over time so is better in the ground. Mint will grow & take over so need to be contained.

Your citrus trees have lots of yellow leaves. No that’s not a lack of water but a lack of Iron. It’s called chlorosis.
Special lemon fertilizer contain higher levels of iron but sometimes you still need to supplement additional iron.
Giving too much water can actually worsen chlorosis! Only water lemon trees when the first centimeters of soil have dried up (finger test or moisture detector) and always provide a good drainage.
Transplant in fresh soil in the late winter dormancy of your citrus trees every 2 years.

i’m moving from a townhouse with a pathetic clay-ridden excuse for a garden into a house with an actual yard and lots of space for a garden! i tried an herb garden last year and it all died within the month, but this year, i’m going to do everything you say and i’m so excited for some summer basil!
OMG STOP SAYING "ERB" PLEASE
This video to me Is kind of misleading. you are going to have much better luck if you get the soil wet first then add to seed starting cells. Those types of jiffy pots dry out very fast I would not recommend them. You can do what you want,and I know people like to recycle things to germinate seeds in ,which is cool, but I recommend plastic . I just have not have luck with that stuff and I wouldn’t want anyone to be put off by gardening when there seeds don’t germinate. Keep them moist and in a dark place until they sprout, then give them some good light. You can put cinnamon on top to prevent any unwanted fungus from growing and makes it smell kind of nice too. Fly traps are a good idea , fungus gnats might attack your babies plants roots, never use garden soil to start seeds inside,or manure. instead make your own seed starting mix. get a 3 cubit foot bag of peat moss for around 10 bucks and a large bag of vermiculite or pearlite, or both for around 15 each and you have basically and endless supply of seed starting mix . You can add fertilizer to seed starting mix but you don’t have to.worm poop is good and I highly recommend against miracle grow or synthetic fertilizers be careful products may appear as if they are all organic but are not..miracle grow does make some soils that are fully organic but use chicken manure,and not entirely sure there feed was organic. I tend to say away from poop,unless its worm or bat poop,and you should think about getting worms as well. If you only need small amounts of seed start mix jiffy seed s mix will do fine, just don’t get there bio pots they damage the roots as well and keep them covered until they germinate and depending on the seed is going to like between 60-72 degrees
How does the plants start growing out of the newspaper? The newspaper is full of glue and paint, is that healthy for the plant that grows out of them? Is that edible , for example herbs?
