Pool noodles cut to 2" work well instead of net cups and hydroton. I cut the two inch, then slice the side and roll it up like a cinnamon roll. Master blend is the way to go. Keep up the great hydroponics work.

Are the plastic totes food grade plastic 🇨🇦❤️

  3. B Green on November 10, 2021 at 12:08 pm

You can also cut up a pool noodle. That will hold your plants and easy to clean. It’s a nightmare to clean used clay pebbles.

Think growing veggies in totes sounds like a good idea but my concern is
What about the oil that goes into the plastic to make the totes. ?
Can one claim its organic because of the oil factor.?
I’m also wondering if yr plans are mostly in shade. ?

  13. Michael Vanecek on November 10, 2021 at 12:23 pm

I recommend you paint the white lid of the 5-gallon bucket or cover the lid with foil to prevent algae.

  31. B Green on November 10, 2021 at 12:47 pm

Aquaponics requires fish to grow plants. Kratky method is how you grow without air or water pumps. Look up dr kratky he has a way to pump butrient water to only 1 inch or 2 inch so you plants have air roots. You can also look up keep on growing. He shows how anyone can grow easily with the dr kratky method

Try placing plastic tub sandwiched between straw bales or wrap in burlap, so sun doesn’t degrade as fast the plastic but it helps keep water from getting too heated.

Congrats for growing your own food. Self-sufficient vegetables are a great way t heathier. I believe in soil-grown,’
but have a lot of reservations about growing in water. I believe that soil is the natural way to grow. By definition, organic
produce is only grown in soil. However our USDA does not support that definition. It allows many hydroponic growers
to label what they grow organic, not label it as hydroponic, or reveal what medium the vegetables are grown in. Rock
wool is typical as a medium, but it is really toxic and reused over and over. In addition, it is legal for growers to use
substances like fish sludge in their hydroponic systems, if the USDA syas they can, yet NOT LIST THIS FACT ANYWHERE.
I have noticed hydroponic veggies are taking over the produce section. The tomato, cukes, lettuces, peppers and other
veggies look too perfect and have very little taste (or nutrition). Real vegetables are grown in soil, and no veggies should
be labeled as "organic" unless they are grown in real soil. Adding liquid nutrients to water is not soil. Thats’ my opinion. Peace.
