Thank you Kim, for the good, simple directions. I’ve been wanting to start growing some vegis indoors so that I can enjoy my own organic vegis, and to satisfy my green thumb urge. Yours is the first video I chose. Good luck to you CaliKim, wish me some luck too.
Can’t wait to try this!!!
This a not so much growing the plants to see the growth but more so a basic transplant that had been seen a kajillion times by now. 7 minutes wasted.
Just place your seeds in damp paper towels and place in sandwich baggie. Three to five days later healthy seeds germinate.
Why not use paper cups? Cucumbers do not like their roots to be disturbed.
Are those cucumber varieties good for making dill pickles like persian or kirby cucumbers?

How come you don’t use LED lights? What is the difference between all the different kinds of light bulbs?
What happened with the tomatoes and cucumbers that you grew indoors. I didn’t see a video where you were able to get a harvest. I’m worried about the plants flowering. I can’t grow outside and really need to do it inside. You did hydroponics, but I need to know if the plants will produce fruit.
I’m trying my first tomatoes this year! Also, you should do a hair tutorial! I love your hair!
by the time the video ended, the tomato plant tops were cooking, literally.
What are the specifications of your grow light and how long do u keep them switched on?
if you bury the cup into the soil then then remove it. Take your plant out of the cup it will fit perfectly into the hole you just made in the pot.
Kim, I went out yesterday and purchased grow lights and clip-on fixtures and have also ordered a couple 15 watt indoor LED grow lights. In the past, I have kept peppers and tomatoes alive over the winter, but they never produced flowers or fruit until going back outside in the Spring. I hope this extra lighting will do the trick. Will there be a chapter in your new book on indoor gardening? Your explanation of lumens and kelvin are the absolute best in any media, like you teach science at Cal Tech.
please show me the harvest, guess not
Lights look super close. How long do you keep the lights on? They grow 100% off a light only?

Is it possible to grow them without using grow lights? Could I sit them next to a window sill instead?
Thanks for the tutorial. I feel more confident about growing veggies now. Do you ever make compost for your soil? Thanks
What is organic fertilizer?
I love this woman. Free knowledge is best. Soak it up while you can.
so boring… 😔😅hahahaha
I am currently growing the space master cucumbers along side my beefsteak tomato and the cucumber has dwarfed the tomato plant. I would have used a larger support.
Is that variety of cucumber self pollinating ?
So they are hand pollinated, I’m assuming?
Just an update to my indoor vegetable gardening experiment. After buying full spectrum grow lights on my bell peppers, hot peppers, cucumbers, and even a zucchini, I saw that they were staying alive but not thriving. After discussing my issues with a local hydroponic gardener, I went to Walmart and bought one LED colored grow light for each plant and added it to the light I was already using. This morning, I looked at my Peruvian hot pepper plants, and they are covered in blooms with a couple of large peppers on them. The mini sweet bell peppers are loaded with at least 2 dozen peppers and many additional blooms. I have a couple of tiny desk fans blowing gentle air on them, and this must be aiding in the pollination as well as retarding any growth of mold. The cucumbers have grown to the point where I had to go with larger PVC pipes, and they have multiple yellow flowers. I have been a bit lax in taking the paint brush to pollinate them, but I did so this morning.
The only negative is that my timer that controls the light turning on and off is hard to get to without moving a lot of stuff around. When the clocks were moved back to Standard Time, I forgot that the timer would turn the lights on an hour earlier, and that meant 4:45 AM. The light from that room leaks into our closed bedroom door, and I am a very light sleeper. I keep telling myself to go into the grow room and move all the stuff to get to the timer, but then I look at everything that has to be moved. So, I will just stuff towels under the bedroom door starting tonight.
Thanks for making this series. This has been the first time in my gardening life that I grow food not just for the nutrition value, but because it is fun to have the veggies in the house where the deer, raccoons, squirrels, rabbits, and chipmunks can’t pillage and plunder. And, because we have the room now, we have continuing supplies of microgreens.
Im just starting to grow, this tutorial will help me lots, how often do you have to water tomatos and cucumber?
SUBSCRIBED! :o)
what is your lighting schedule?
That’s awesome….But how will they get pollinated indoors? No wind, no rain drops, no pollinating bees.!!!
can you let us know how you built the led lights ? and all technical specs for the LEDs as well. thanks so much !
Have you tried or had any luck with growing avocado trees? I had one growing for 2 yrs then i got bad bugs in my soil and they killed my tree
Don’t know why the keyboard said "you did" it was suppose to say "I’ll do hydroponics"
Thanks for your help
Where is the harvest part? Did those light bulbs actually produce any cucumbers?
How long do you keep the grow lights on the plants ? You didn’t say in this video and I was just wondering, cause I’m trying to grow some veggies myself inside. I’ve never done this before, and so far everything is dying. Started some seedlings and just checked on them, planted some cherry tomatoes and some of them are starting to sprout. I’m so excited about that. I using different types of grow lights, I have one of the clip on and 3 of the bulb type and I don’t think their close enough to the plants. Could you advice me please and thank you in advance.
Great video! Can I use this guide to grown the tomato and cucamber outside in a mini 4 tier green hose?
Bottle of sand and pipe= Brilliant!! Thanks
do you grow Apple’s indoors.
kim when i first put seeds in soil do i keep the grow lights on them for all 6 weeks 24 /7 till i plant them outside
lol clown garden
How do you go about pollination?
Oh my gosh, thank you! I have been searching for a how-to garden indoors and yours is the best by far. Pleasant instructional manner and easy to follow.
5k and 3K LEDs are now about $5 at lowes/home depot. These can be placed within 2" of the top of the plant- closer increases the light intensity (inverse square law).
Wahoo! I’ve been looking for a simple way to do this; this is perfect! How tall will each plant get? Where did you get the sticks? What are they made of?
I have a 1000w and 850w grow light and 1 room to grow in. How many plants can you grow with 2 lights? I want a pot of carrots (i like your cardboard divider idea), potatoes, beans, kale, chives, tomatoes, cucumbers, and anything else that will grow. This will be the first indoor garden we’ve had. We want to maximize every inch of growing space. I’ll bet we have to turn pots a lot.
Your grow light system is beyond brilliant!
when you were transplanting the cherry tomato from the cup to the bag with potting soil. What kind of potting soil do you use? you said you put some fertilizer with it. I was looking for a potting mix for indoor growing, did not know if you made your own or bought it pre made. thanks, gary
No updates? How did they do?
How long should I leave the light on?
That lamp, even at that distance, produces less light than a south-facing windowsill. Even with high-powered HID/LED grow lights, tomatoes are difficult to grow indoors, because of how much light energy they require.
