Growing Fruit Trees from SEEDS? First consider if they grow "True to the Seed"

In this video I tell you about a lesson I learned the hard way. When you grow fruit trees from seed, the tree doesn’t always produce a tree like the tree that produced the fruit. If you are growing fruit trees from seeds you want to make sure it is a kind that grows true to seed.

I rooted a persimmon seed and its growing but from your experience, will it bare good fruit? I also rooted apple seeds and it seems to be growing pretty fast. Im a beginner in gardening and am loving it so far but still "green" in really knowing what i should really be planting from the seed, I have found your videos very helpful and interesting. Thank you for sharing and hope to hear from you soon.

If the fruit doesn’t grow true to seed then how can we replicate a fruit we like? Loved the information you gave but it’d be nice to know what solutions there are to this issue

Having the yard cleared next week, planning on putting some fruit trees in this year. How long do you cut the fruit from the mangoes, we’re planting a dwarf due to the size of our yard. Any tips for avocados? Do they also come in dwarf sizes? do you need 2 of each tree in order to get fruit? Thanks for all the posts, you’ve been a wealth of info since I moved here.

Cashews is a commodity. They are a unique fruit, its seeds grew out first, then the flesh. Have you ever been to find or attempt to grow?

I have about 20 pear seeds germinating. I am planning on using them for grafting varieties that I like.

Do you have any advice for growing apples from seed? I want one or two nice pie making apple trees. Have lots of space. Will they work if I just plant the seeds from a store bought apple?

Do crosses such as Pluots, Pluerry, or Apriums grow true from seed? I can’t find much info about these

  13. Chris Hernandez on December 23, 2021 at 5:27 pm

Hey if it’s not a good variety then graft, it doesn’t hurt to try and grow your own variety. You may get something you love and if not there’s always other better varieties you can place there

Do pear trees grow true to seed?

  15. Theo T on December 23, 2021 at 5:37 pm

Can someone help me? Here is my story.

I was in Mexico and seen a huge tree full of green limes. I brought the seeds back to Canada where i live and germinated them. They started to grow. This is 3 years ago. They started to grow to today where i have them in 5 gallon home depot buckets. Winters i bring them in and the few months of summer that we have in Toronto, i take them out. They are out today.
They grown around 3 feet high and very thorny. No limes, no flowers. The leaves smell so so amazing, it just releases the lime scent.
I have a feeling i am wasting my time and doubt i will see limes. Is there anything i can do? I go to Mexico almost every month and would it be ok to take a branch or cutting off a lime tree from there and bring that and graft that to my existing tree? is that possible?
oh, by the way, when they are indoors for the winter, i just have grow lights..leaves still give off scent, no change of color, nice dark green.
    Hope anyone can help.

    Thanks.
