Great Gardens of England
the Gardens at Hidcote Manor, Mottisfont Abbey, Sissinghurst Castle
With a cameo appearance by Nigel Nicolson
Why did American-born Major Lawrence Johnston spend much of his lifetime creating a storied garden in a remote part of the Cotswolds? What is Graham Stuart Thomas’s glorious collection of antique roses doing in a medieval English Abbey? What persuaded author, poet and plantswoman Vita Sackville-West and her husband Harold Nicolson to buy a derelict ruin on the edge of the Kentish Weald to create their fabled garden? Their son, Nigel Nicolson, reminisces about this most beloved of gardens and his now legendary parents.
An extensive tour of each garden examines design, plantings, close-up details, and observations by gardeners. An hour of sheer enjoyment, beauty, and an excellent source of inspiration for those with a love for gardens.
You speak to much !
I am Montagnard jarai tribe live in USA 🇺🇸 love visit England to see this garden
👍cool .. BiG thumbs up .Great dear Friend
Have a nice time
The white garden is amazing for moonlight. Once I designed a champagne pink garden with blue green foliage plants and grey foliage like artemis and dusty miller and lambs ears, only the palest pink florals allowed, for a similarly magical effect in the starlight and daylight alike. These gardens show what I think is the right use of money and time. I hope there are gardens in heaven. We have in any garden the picture of revival and continuance of beauty and peace we hope to inhabit in eternity.
wow……………
Why is this on my recommendation YouTube
人類離不開大自然,善待大自然,大自然會給我們甜美的果實!
There is such a thing as too much of a good thing. Glorious, glorious, glorious!
Thanks! I find Sissinghurst very inspiring.
I wish I could be there to witness this amazing beautiful English garden, love from Australia 😀👍
i used to set the tv to play Monty Don’s gardening shows to sleep to his voice.
The love for life and Nature is in this Garden, God bless them, such a beautiful place for people to visit, greetings from U.S.A. 🇺🇸🙏🇨🇴❤
What kind of hedge is that at 9 minutes in? And perhaps he says what it is at some point. If so I’ve missed it or couldn’t make it out. English is not my mother language so appreciate it if someone can help. Thanks
7:11 Did he say ‘to support hayricks’?

Great Garden prescription..England..the brothers Grimm..🧙…🧵📌
Nigel’s stories and recollections were very good to hear. Enjoyable film. Thank you.
Loved this!
Wow! Lovely
The music was delightful right from the beginning along with the birdseye view of gardens. The narrators soothing voice also sets the stage.
I want to rip all of these gardens with my drone 🤗
Gardening is a method of meditation 😍😍
13:52 I completely agree. Roses are my favourite flower.
Wonderful to see these beautiful gardens – We recently visited Sissinghurst and have named it as the first of our Inspirational Locations for writers and book lovers – head on over to https://youtu.be/SQRv85oDxq8 to see
Really informative programme. Thank you so much.
I think he has a beautiful speaking voice no matter where he comes from, I can understand it a little better than the english voice!!!
Frankly, I’m not that impressed. The glowing build-up exceeds the reality too much. It all depends on the particular season, and light. I don’t know when this was filmed, but it seems over exposed, and the colours weak. I saw this Garden some years ago on TV, it was far crisper and defined than here.
Nigel Nicolson died in 2004, I’m guessing this was filmed in the 1980s.
Garden are deautyful but I’m soo dizzy watching 😊
A bit plummy but I love the gardens

Ces jardins sont splendides !
A small pity the film was in a more square aspect ratio than the widescreen upload, which appears have been artificially stretched. My eye is attune to this kind of stuff, for me it takes from the viewing experience. Quick example: http://i.imgur.com/16xNPYQ.png (notice the image of the gardener on the left appears much more natural)
Lovely nice beautiful gardens . Thank you. 🌻

Green gardens of england
Have you noticed how overworked the adjective " great " is?? There are others in our language:: i.e., marvelous, fine, magnificent.
Nice gardens and narration but lose the background music. It’s annoying and distracting
Do you show the gardens when they are flowering? I love fuschia – however, none were flowering – just wondering
narrator was very pleasant to listen to. enjoyed this much, watched more than once👍
A good garden is God’s Grace😍😍
