Garden From Scratch | Vlog 02 | New England Weather Be Like

Garden From Scratch | Vlog 02 | New England Weather Be Like

Hello friends, today we are finally catching up on what’s been going on in my outdoor garden. I kept meaning to edit the footage and put it together and instead it didn’t do that and added more and more footage so this is a bit of a mash up and things will be a little more smooth going forward. This Vlog takes us through April and the beginning of May and all of the storms we were having here in zone 6B Massachusetts.

Here’s the row cover I mentioned and used, one package was enough for my 8 foot low tunnel and enough to cover a 4×4 bed.:

    So cool! 💚

Hey Princess Queen! You and Fam gonna be alright. I see you channeling your natural inner Pilgrim skills. You Know those that came before didn’t have it as we do today but something is to be valued of the lack of the convenience they had that today makes us tough as we channel back to some of that grit to live the natural. So Solar, Water catchment, so on and so forth because the bible speaks of the rough times we are going to have. Carefully and patiently analyze the natural and political enviro we are in now.
But you know, I keep saying to myself every March, April, May, I don’t remember as a child the cold weather lasting so long into April. I remember taking off our coats and wearing lighter coats by the very minimum end of March, Beginning of April. Now I’m wearing a coat all the way into May. And I don’t change to my lighter warm weather clothing until June. I’m in New York City. It is May 22nd and I’m glad it is finally getting warmer and staying a little steady. Windy days and very cool nights have crept in. I am in the garden and have planted flowers, herbs, Black Dragon Coleus, Cintronella, scallions, raspberry all since mid May till now. Strawberries and Alfalfa are coming back and so is my sedum. The Coleus and Cintronella I just planted today after I bought them today from Union Square Greenmarket in Manhattan. It was a beautiful day and its a warm night. It rained just a little. Well, HAPPY PLANTING AND MUCH MUCH SUCCESS TO YOU AND FAMILY. Matthew 24:3-51, Proverbs 3;5-7, Proverbs 4:7, Deuteronomy 8:3,10,11,18

I feel you. My cucumbers survived all the frost, all the taking in and out. I planted them out this Saturday and something ate them!

There’s nothing like city gardening to earn a tetanus shot. How did the dahlias do?

  8. Elizabeth Greco-Nieves on May 9, 2022 at 7:15 pm

Beautiful garden Pam, it’s really taking shape😉🌱
I’m in the northeast also, Long Island, and this spring hasn’t definitely not sprung, a lot of cold snaps .
That cold frame wow 🤩 your dad is talented🙌

  9. Lindsey Robb on May 9, 2022 at 7:15 pm

Awesome dad! That cold frame is awesome! I’ve been wanting one for a bit myself. Even in the south I’m still taking a lot of stuff in and out on a lot of nights. And now the next 2 weeks we’re having a monsoon everyday. Great video! I would love to see a video on Dahlias, I’ve planted 5 tubers myself this year but really have no idea what I’m actually doing with them. I’m also growing some catnip to try and keep the cats attention on them and off my good stuff but they could care less about it lol. ✌💟🌿

  10. Meghan Kennedy on May 9, 2022 at 7:15 pm

Thank you for the idea of starting seeds in big hugs like milk and tea jugs! My patio is thriving!

  11. marty stevens on May 9, 2022 at 7:17 pm

I’m in worcester and this has been one long cold spring. Snow in May wtf? I just started my seeds last week so you are way ahead in the game…I’m jealous 🙂 be careful with chives in the ground. They will be your worst weed. Just be sure to deadhead them when they bloom (you can pull the pink petals off and sprinkle them on salads). They self seed very easily.

  12. Kathy Dubya on May 9, 2022 at 7:17 pm

Argh! New England weather…it feels like a slap in the face! Like, in the middle of a global pandemic, can’t we just have a little spring to enjoy while we’re all out of work?! I only lost some geraniums to frost bite, no big deal 🤷‍♀️
All of that physical labor probably keeps you sane.
Sorry, got called back to work (a bit early in my opinion) so I’m a little bitter right now….

  13. Alicia Moore on May 9, 2022 at 7:21 pm

Not sure how I missed this video! Anyway, you’ve worked really hard and it definitely shows! Your space is kickass! 🙂

  14. Grafting Tactick on May 9, 2022 at 7:22 pm

You really are a green thumb person, I subbed, cos I want to see more of your video 💕💕 thanks for sharing friend👍👍

  15. Mark Strahl on May 9, 2022 at 7:22 pm

Pam i enjoy your channel. I hate this darn
Virus. I am doing OK. I hope your veggie and outdoor gardens do great.

  16. Plant Sinner on May 9, 2022 at 7:22 pm

You are amazing! All I can say is WOW! I’m glad you do what you do. Nothing like good exercise and money saving. That is some love and dedication right there. I love it!

  17. Lindsay loves leaves on May 9, 2022 at 7:23 pm

Love this Pam your garden is beautiful. This has been the craziest weather. I lost all my cantaloupe and watermelons.

  18. Amanda MacArthur on May 9, 2022 at 7:23 pm

Make sure you acidify the soil for the blueberries! While most plants like a pH of 6.5-7, blubs prefer close to 5-5.5

  19. Sherry Porsch on May 9, 2022 at 7:25 pm

Wow, the wind is brutal , but everything you have grown looks great despite the weather. 😍 I love that you keep it real, “ This is me, like or not.” 😀

  20. Casey M on May 9, 2022 at 7:27 pm

You said garage and I went full Mo and thought “cah hole.”

  21. Emily Wayland on May 9, 2022 at 7:28 pm

These are my favorite, love it. Gardening is getting us through this dumpster fire of a year. 🌿💚

  22. Peanut's Plants on May 9, 2022 at 7:31 pm

Dang you’ve done a ton of work! Everything looks great and can’t wait to see a update 😁 I just started a ton of different seeds, I know I’m late but I figured why not give it a try! ☺️

  23. Twisty Sunshine on May 9, 2022 at 7:31 pm

We’re in 5b, and I totally feel you. So many people have so much time to outdoor garden and they don’t even know how good it is haha

  24. Sarah Pierce on May 9, 2022 at 7:35 pm

Those mushrooms look like turkey tails!

  25. Kim Smith on May 9, 2022 at 7:35 pm

You are so determined, I love that. I hope it warms up soon for you. I’m in the Caribbean and our rainy season has finally started. Even a hurricane approaching. However I have some Petunias and Zinnias and Sunflowers coming in. I shall never complain about a few bugs again. My veggies are coming along despite the slugs and African snails. I pray you have a real summer to enjoy your garden. 💚🌿🌱

  26. Lori Fox on May 9, 2022 at 7:35 pm

Your weather is pretty nasty. Defined a learning curve to be a gardener.

  27. Aimee Hodgin on May 9, 2022 at 7:36 pm

Thank you!! WOW! You are awesome! I am very proud of your garden! WooHoo!

  28. Definitely Not Christian Slater on May 9, 2022 at 7:37 pm

I’m gardening in ground for the first time this year. I had some success in containers and kiddie pools last year. I’m in 6b WA and the winter was so mild and the spring has been like everlasting. My violets are still going strong with buds and all. It’s been a weird growing season so far. Let us hope Mother Nature is our biggest obstacle and not her pests.

  29. Celine F. on May 9, 2022 at 7:38 pm

Oh sorry Pam I wanted to tell You something else…THANK YOU for not adding loud music over your filming ’cause the silence+all the birds singing and all your flowers and gardening is sooo pleasant.Voila ! C’est tout pour moi😉🙏

  30. Elisa Liebelt on May 9, 2022 at 7:43 pm

I’m just at the beginning of my grow season now. I’m 4a. I’m asking for a green house this year for a combined one gift for everything! as of today May 19 we are still freezing almost every night even though some of our day temps have been in the 80s. Our first freeze will be sometime in September. I’m going to try out your row coverings that would be so much better than blankets!

  31. Natacha Yearwood on May 9, 2022 at 7:44 pm

So many things about this video are just sooo right!! Thank you, I appreciate you so much, please feel the love and goodness sent right back to you!! Your Dad is a Rockstar! That coldframe is awesome!! I bought my sister a Buddha made of porcelain that I found in a junk shop in the village (before Starbucks moved in). It is her favorite! Please keep us updated on your wonderful garden! Its giving me life!! 💕💕💕💕🍃🍃🍃

  32. K Frohlich on May 9, 2022 at 7:45 pm

Pam… what an awesome job you have done!!!. Love everything 😍

  33. Shelli on May 9, 2022 at 7:46 pm

You’ll have better luck controlling the acidity in a pot for your blueberries then in the ground. Also do you have a second for pollination?

  34. wendy ambruson on May 9, 2022 at 7:46 pm

Ditch lillies! Geez I have a ton of those! You are in new england? So am i!

  35. Diane Picard on May 9, 2022 at 7:48 pm

I agree Pam it’s fun growing veggies in the house. This week it’s beautiful and warm so I will be able to plant them outside.

  36. Celine F. on May 9, 2022 at 7:49 pm

Bonjour Pam…ouhhhh you’re so beautiful with your makeup on and shiny long hair !
Bravo for everything👏👏…it’s so cool…Loads of work obviously but so rewarding and satisfactory…🍃🌱🌿🌱😉😊Bon COURAGE et à bientôt 🍃

Great video you’re garden is huge I wish I had a garden

  40. Cheryl McKenrick on May 9, 2022 at 7:55 pm

I always had a garden and start indoors for all of the same reasons. It is a lot of work, but so fulfilling. Your gardens look great. Your efforts will be rewarded. Here in Maryland we have had the same crazy weather.

  41. Valium's Urban Jungle on May 9, 2022 at 7:55 pm

Wow that frame is perfect!! And yaaay and thank you for the updates!!
Frost and snow in April and May?! The weather so far has been insane. Oh well, 2020 has totally gone bananas in general. 🙄
We’ve had our first…heatwave two days ago, two months too early!! 105°F!! I think most of my plants loved it, though. I’ve gone crazy with bulbs and seeds this year as well, let’s see how it goes!!
    Daaaaamn girl, a cliffhanger?! 😱

  42. Millennial Planter on May 9, 2022 at 7:56 pm

Wow Pam…your garden is so gorgeous! I really enjoyed this update. I’M SO PROUD OF YOU 💚

  43. Firefly in the Room on May 9, 2022 at 7:58 pm

You have so much space to work with! So jelllyyy :> Love the garden and glad that after all this freezing temperatures it ended up happy and beautiful!

  44. Elle on May 9, 2022 at 7:59 pm

So cool watching your garden evolve. I also felt your pain of manually "rototilling" your beds. I am currently doing that in a small corner of my garden where a rototiller doesn’t fit and it sucks major ballz 😭

  45. Rachel Bartley on May 9, 2022 at 8:01 pm

The weather has even been finicky here in the South!… but warmer temps are on the way as it’s almost June now!.. Hang in there sweetie!
Your plants look great and it’s awesome to watch them grow and evolve!.. you’ve given them so much love!
Take care in these crazy times Pam!
Curious if the t-shirt fit ya….

  46. Olga A on May 9, 2022 at 8:02 pm

Omg. I can’t believe I found you! Your videos never came out on my feed anymore when you did couponing!! So happy I found you again! Missed seeing you!🌼🌸🙏🌳🌿💐🌷🌹🥰🥰

  47. Drunken Homemaker on May 9, 2022 at 8:03 pm

Buffalo here! I feel ya. We had like three days of snow and i wanted to cry. I love gardening. Sort of weird question, because your channel is mostly about houseplants, do you feel like YouTube’s algorithm doesn’t push your gardening videos? I ask because i’m obsessed with gardening, but worry that because my channel is so small I shouldn’t even bother posting gardening videos.

  48. fortehbirds on May 9, 2022 at 8:05 pm

Welp, never cared about growing edible plants until now. Your channel always shows me new plants to nerd out about.

  49. Richard Cooke on May 9, 2022 at 8:05 pm

For some reason I thought you couldn’t have a garden, glad you have one Pam, I know you’ll get a lot of enjoyment out of it and we the viewers will too, Thanks!

  50. Nerdy Kathi on May 9, 2022 at 8:05 pm

You didn’t need the Benny Hill music, as soon as you said it, that’s all I heard. 😂
Loved the vlog, was so relaxing watching it and it left me in awe at just how much work you put into it. You did a fantastic job.
P.S. That thumbnail and shot of you is bloody brilliant!
