Flower Garden Banks Marine Sancturary, Texas – September 2013

Flower Garden Banks Marine Sancturary, Texas – September 2013

About 100 miles off of Texas a coral garden, lies atop of a salt dome. In 1992, it was designated a National Marine Sanctuary. In 1996, nearby Stetson’s Bank was also included. The banks top out at about 65 feet below the surface. This is all open water diving. Usually there is current, supplying nutrients to the corals. But, little to none were present when I was there. We also dove two different oilrigs. Lots of life on these.

Amazing close up shots. Who did you charter with for this trip, and would you recommend them?

Nice video. I was on the same trip.  Yes, this boat is the only choice and not it’s not like an Aggressor trip.  Dive Master JT is a bit … intense, but it is safe operation.  Don’t worry if you brought your gun they have a safe on board for it.  This is true Texas diving.  Stellar conditions.  Flat calm, light breeze, no current and 100 foot viz.  Lots of Barracuda.

cool video. love the close ups on the small fish.  What kind of camera and lighting system did you use.

The first one was a Sandbar shark. The second, the friendlier one a silky.
