So nice!! Great job! I’ve never seen anyone lay the weed barrier first and then cut holes in it to put the plants in!! Most people plant first then cut the barrier to go around the plants. I guess either way works just as well!!

Your garden is lovely. Good job. My experience has been that weed fabric is not very cool. After several years trying to work with it and having to pull it up after a year or two, I use 3-4 inches of shredded mulch. More effective and better for the soil, too!

What a great video ! I never knew that’s how you are supposed to use the fabric or to leave a border between the grass and flower bed. And you gave me an idea for the area at the fence to block the big gap to the neighbors. Thanks !

That looks amazing! You and your mum have a really good eye for arranging and displaying all the plants. It looks really professional and well worth all the hard work and effort. ๐Ÿ˜€

  26. Zara Elizabeth on July 4, 2022 at 10:17 pm

Loved the makeover. However a bit of advice (as I am a keen gardener) weed barrier fabrics do not allow water to penetrate the soil as readily as soil without fabric. In heavy rain, a lot of water builds up and runs off, one reason why gardeners who use weed barriers see edges of it glistening in the sunlight so often. More important, weed barrier fabrics decrease the amount of oxygen that is drawn into the soil. All plant roots require oxygen, at various preferred levels (yes, even water plant roots).

This was a very helpful instructional video. I am getting ready to redo my flower beds for the first time. If I use mulch, can I add it over the weed fabric? I don’t want stones in my flower beds but for the record I am based in the Southern part of the United States so I don’t know if climate makes a difference.

Not recommend use weed stopper cause plant is growing fast the weed stopper can hold back the new sprouts

Very informative. I am new to gardening. And need alot of help.

Hey Shannon. Thank you so much for posting this. Such a great video with loads of tips. I am thinking to do something similar in my garden but wondered if you could do a review of your garden now and what you have learnt. Have the plants grown well with this type of set up. Xx

Thatโ€™s going to look terrible in a month. You need to build a better edge.

Great job girls! I love my garden too, im in a new build & the garden was laid with turf that died in the summer 2 years aho when we moved in! It was practically white when we got here, right state, so, slowly I have transformed my garden space with a shed finally for added storage, lots & lots of pots as the ground is just rock solid, too hard to be able to plant anything! All the vibrant colours of various geraniums fushias and countless others just make it such a wonderful relaxing space and ive been getting visits from butterflies which I love!! Enjoy your garden Shade it truly looks marvellous!! Xx

Looks good. I don’t know if "budget friendly " is possible for decorating a garden. I spent so much money last year on plants, and I didn’t even get the look I want. The stones with the plants are gorgeous.

  48. Audra Hopkins on July 4, 2022 at 10:43 pm

would love to see how the plants came back a year later! I’m about to do a rock landscape but worried how my plants will come up again through the rock

  49. Kathie Croskell on July 4, 2022 at 10:45 pm

This is the best video Iโ€™ve seen! Quick question, do you have to decorate with the slate stuff? Can you use soil? Any suggestions?
