Dollar seeds are older, they don’t check for germination rate or quality standards

  2. Kim Vaughn on May 13, 2022 at 7:41 pm

The squirrels in my city are down right disrespectful. But I guess they were here first right?🥴

    I have few questions
    1. Are dollar tree seeds disease resistant?
    2. How was the flavor?
    3. Which one was your favorite?

Do they both produce viable seeds for the next season?

I buy most of my seeds from the dollar store for a quarter a packet. I don’t really have a green thumb, but I do get good results from these seeds. I just picked about a pound and a half of green beans from the garden yesterday. I washed, blanched, and stored them in the freezer in plastic bags with zipper closures. They are ready to go when I decide to cook them. My garden also has cucumbers, carrots, peas, radishes, and other veggies as well. My container garden consists of rosemary, basil, thyme, dill, and other herbs. (These are ALL dollar store seeds …. very affordable). My daughter loves basil butter for her baked potato, so I usually make basil butter in the food processor and use a stainless steel melon baller to shape the butter into individual servings and freeze them in plastic bags with zipper closures. The flower garden also fares well with seeds from the dollar store and my pocketbook loves the price.

I had more success with with the cheaper seeds they were more resilient against the heat in southern California

I’ve also found American Seed Company seed packs at True Value Hardware for 99¢.
I’ve also found a much bigger variety from the more expensive seed companies. The Dollar Tree and True Value Hardware displays are very minimalistic.

What’s the deal with Monsanto seeds. Why not purchase from the company?

  13. DLAB White on May 13, 2022 at 7:50 pm

Do not buy Pennington seeds they have as much as 95% inert material in the packages

  14. Jennie Painter on May 13, 2022 at 7:51 pm

I get most of my seeds from saving seeds or buying cheap seeds. The most important thing I do is pray and ask Almighty God to bless them so I can be a blessing to others by sharing. I’ve never had a problem. Thank you Almighty God I give you all the Glory.

  15. Artsy Marsy on May 13, 2022 at 7:52 pm

Miracle Gro and Scotts are also Monsanto companies. The miracle gro soil is great but I refuse to give Monsanto a dime

  16. Rickesh Patel on May 13, 2022 at 7:52 pm

I just got those American seed ones at the dollar general non gmo and Lowe’s as well and some more special varieties from elsewhere.

I’m about to find out this week which ones will germinate 🤔

  17. Hack 'n Build on May 13, 2022 at 7:53 pm

Just came to say the dollar store seeds are great. I’ve also had good luck with other discount value-priced brands like Lakeview and Crossman. American Seed is owned by Plantation Products which also owns Ferry-Morse and Livingston Seed. Seeds will last a very long time, though the germination rate does go down over time.

  18. Malcolm T on May 13, 2022 at 7:53 pm

Hybrids are going to be more expensive than open pollinated, because you have to pay someone to manually cross pollinate two varieties.

  19. Victor Wadsworth on May 13, 2022 at 7:56 pm

Stick steel wool in those open holes, that will keep critters out.

  20. ♡SARAH♡ on May 13, 2022 at 7:59 pm

    Dollar tree sells seeds also

  21. Noemi Lujan on May 13, 2022 at 7:59 pm

Dollar Tree has seed packets at 10 packets for $1 right now

I picked up a pack of sunflower seeds from American Seed, it had one seed in it! Glad I checked a few packs before selecting one. Seems like their QC is all over the place.

  24. C Jane on May 13, 2022 at 8:04 pm

Are they non GMO seeds? I read online that the seeds are treated with chemicals.

  25. Hairy Witch on May 13, 2022 at 8:06 pm

The dollar tree and 99cent store seeds used to be 10 for a dollar. Now you only get 4. Shrinkflation.

  26. Kat Paiz on May 13, 2022 at 8:10 pm

Lol the Intro. At least the squirrels are eating

  27. Another Watchwoman on May 13, 2022 at 8:12 pm

    Are both non-GMO?

  28. Missing Link MTB on May 13, 2022 at 8:15 pm

I just did the same. Found seeds at Dollar Tree 4 packs for $1. Less seeds per pack, but for the price it’s cheaper per seed still. Something else I’m experimenting with is jalapeno’s. Home Depot had $4 plants and $2 plants. They look the same and the tags had no discernible differences. The more expensive was in a clear cup and the cheaper ones in a white cup. They’re outside now in my garden all growing about the same. Guess I’ll find out in a couple months if there’s any difference in the jalapeno’s or production of.

  29. Julien Hennequart on May 13, 2022 at 8:17 pm

The burpee seeds are more expensive because they are a hybrid variety. They need to cross pollinate two very specific varieties to make the seeds, which is of course more difficult and expensive.

  30. Canna- Cabobs on May 13, 2022 at 8:18 pm

can you eat seeds from burpee? i bought garlic chives & spinach, both say for planting purposes not for human consumption. being a new grower it was frustrating they were more expensive too.

  31. Lee and Barb Belle on May 13, 2022 at 8:20 pm

    Eat those squirrels,problem solved

  32. Ron Luikaart on May 13, 2022 at 8:21 pm

You can save and replant seeds from open pollinated plants (may or may not be heirloom). Hybrids do not produce the same plant. The Hales Jumbo melon is open pollinated (op).

  33. Jim Anders on May 13, 2022 at 8:21 pm

    fats squirrels in your neighborhood.

*EVERY YEAR* this question bothers me! THANK YOU*
The most under asked q! My dairy fam used to test seed with the house plants before we chose!

American Seed was formed by Monsanto in 2004. I too have been lured in by their cheap prices.

  37. Joanne Cordone on May 13, 2022 at 8:24 pm

Do not throw out last year’s seeds. Many seeds stored properly can last year’s.

American Seed company seeds sold at Dollar Tree is owned by Monsanto. So heads up everyone and no cheap is definitely not always better.

  40. js whosoever on May 13, 2022 at 8:26 pm

I only use organic…what’s the point of growing your own food otherwise? You’re not going to get chemical free seed if it’s not labeled organic. Maybe not GMOs but they still bombard them with junk from seed to plant to seed.

  41. Kittie W on May 13, 2022 at 8:27 pm

Fact seeds don’t expire, the dollar tree seeds I had from a few years back 2018 season all germinated in 2021. Key long term storage, dark cool place. Plus the seed company dollar tree gets seeds from sells same at big box for 8x cost.

  42. Kevin Steffens on May 13, 2022 at 8:30 pm

The Dollar tree yellow beans that I have got have 70 % less seeds then the Burpee but I paid .25 per pack. The seed quantity is inconsistent. Planted 2 rows of each side by side. Successful germination was identical. The dollar tree seeds actually outproduced the Burpee for some reason. Even with the less seeds per bag. $1 of seeds from dollar tree was more seeds than the $ 2.79 bag of Burpee.

  43. Laurene Taylor on May 13, 2022 at 8:30 pm

I planted the dollartree large red cherry tomato seeds (American Seed) and was never so happy with the results. The tomatoes were early, filled with fruit and even reseeded themselves the next year. I cannot live without these wonderful seeds!!!

  44. Taco Of Love on May 13, 2022 at 8:31 pm

I assumed there were just more seeds in the $2.50 pack

  45. loraine spence on May 13, 2022 at 8:32 pm

Could you fold up chicken wire and stuff under the solar panels to keep squirrels from getting
under solar panels or cut some gutter guard,

  46. 2924sunny on May 13, 2022 at 8:32 pm

American Seed Co is OWNED by MONSANTO : (

  47. Ross Redman on May 13, 2022 at 8:33 pm

No seeds in the small packs. Shoot the squirrels daily.

  48. Miquel Montgomery on May 13, 2022 at 8:34 pm

Honestly Dollar Store seeds have worked better for me then expensive brands. They always germinate and fast too.

  49. Doing stuff with James on May 13, 2022 at 8:35 pm

Ok I understand both companies to buy from Monsanto but that bag of soil really pisses me off it says organic but it also says it has copyrighted ingredients That’s soil is bullshit I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody
