Diving the Flower Gardens

Diving the Flower Gardens

The Flower Gardens is a marine sanctuary located 70-100 miles South of Texas in the Gulf of Mexico. Manta Rays are one of the big treats you have a chance of seeing on these dives, but this was the first trip (of 3) where I was lucky enough to have a fun encounter.

I’ll be visiting this fall. And y’all be sure I’m not going to bother marine life the way such a bunch of dive-posers did here.

Great video, one of the better videos I’ve seen. Lots of wonderful life there. Hope to visit there sometime.

There is some pretty poor etiquette by some of the divers which is always sad to see. Touching marine life is foolish and should be taught not only in the OWC but in every course. I think I’m going there at the end of this month. Fantastic video though!

Humans: Please stop touching wildlife!!! Give them the respect they deserve and protect them.

Hello, I am spending my summer as an intern at NOAA fisheries through a scholarship program, and I am conducting research on the giant manta ray for my project. I saw your encounter and would love to learn more about your manta ray sightings. Could you provide the following: date of this sighting, and the sighting location (this may be in the form of a geotag from the device you used to take the video), and an approximate size of the animal? If you are willing to share this information, you can reply directly to this comment, or shoot me an email at adamsdelaney5@gmail.com. The information you provide will help us learn more about the spatial distribution of this endangered species. Thanks!
