How far away from one another do plants need to be that don’t do well next to each other? I have seen SO many videos and articles saying not to plant things next to each other but haven’t found any advice on how far apart to keep them if you want to grow both.

  2. Regina Diehl on April 17, 2022 at 6:03 pm

    Good companion planting advice. Thanks

There is one thing I noticed however. It’s all the black plastic and drip lines that you have running through your garden. Are you aware of how those materials are leaching toxins into your soil and are also released into the air that you and your plants are breathing?

I do however honor you for teaching us how to be better gardeners. Thanks

  9. April B on April 17, 2022 at 6:13 pm

Hey it’s my first time seeing your channel. I appreciate the way you get to the point. I am grateful for your info… I’m from
Australia… I do get a little confused with some of your terms… peppers (chilli- in Australia)… I realise you mean capsicum I think? I was told that carrot appreciates onion as it keeps away the pests that eat the carrot? Is that not right? I guess I’ll get it in time. Thanks again.

  10. Samer Azar on April 17, 2022 at 6:13 pm

I think that peppers are summer crops and broccoli is a winter crop. How come you are suggesting not to plant them altogether? They won’t be planted at the same time at the first place

  21. Grace Cotton on April 17, 2022 at 6:27 pm

Is it true that sewing a row of spring onions along with carrots will hide the carrot smell from the carrot fly?

  22. Nico Rosa on April 17, 2022 at 6:28 pm

Haha you said " do do "

  23. wendy Taylor on April 17, 2022 at 6:31 pm

Thankyou for you video. I am a slightly confused though when it comes to carrots, I have read and been told that alliums are the perfect growing companion for carrots as they help discourage carrot root fly.
Can you please explain why they are not suitable together.

  24. Googlegal on April 17, 2022 at 6:33 pm

  25. Carmen Ortiz on April 17, 2022 at 6:33 pm

Thanks! Easiest companion planting video to figure out. Normally you get a list with a few hundred plants and what they each likes or not. I can do plant families. I start many plants indoors based on families. No brassicas with this, not night shades with that SUPER EASY! Perfect timing finding this video, since it’s almost warm enough in Northern Minnesota to start moving babies outside.

Can I grow strawberries, garlic chives, dill and raspberries together?

  27. Jo Hanna on April 17, 2022 at 6:35 pm

Why don’t you use flowers as companions. They are great and put pazazz in the garden. I did enjoy the video. thanks

  28. Don Gilleo on April 17, 2022 at 6:36 pm

My pepper plants were getting wiped out by caterpillars. From one day to next, one of my pepper plants had gone from looking healthy to looking like someone had taken a weed eater to it. The next season I bought a bag of little onion bulbs, and planted at least four around each pepper plant, and others scattered around the flower bed. I never had trouble with caterpillars, or even saw any ever again. The onions never produced big bulbs, but they more than earned their keep.
I’m wondering if co-planting onions with other crops would help reduce damage and loss from other pests. At one point, I was losing almost half of my tomatoes to birds. I never got the opportunity to try, but would onions keep birds away? I’m also wondering if planting onions in the vicinity of my would minimize the slugs that get into the ears and eat them away. Sad to go through the effort to grow corn, only to pull the ear off and find a big fat bug has eaten most of the kernels.

Did I have a fluke last year? My peppers did great next to my green beans last year.

  33. Daniel Allmon on April 17, 2022 at 6:39 pm

So when they say these don’t go together, is it because they use the same nutrients from the soil? or they will counter each other’s pollination? I’ve heard both.

  42. Sandy morrow on April 17, 2022 at 6:53 pm

I thought it was a good idea to plant onions near carrots, because they disguise the scent of the carrots and prevent carrot flies.
