WSJ asked Timothy Hammond, an urban gardener and educator in Houston, to test out Rise Gardens hydroponic smart garden to see how the vegetables compare with his own outdoor garden. The price is insulting!

  2. Divine Intellect on August 31, 2021 at 12:42 am

So why did wsj not share this brothers info for his social media? Trash

  3. Prasanna Kumar on August 31, 2021 at 12:42 am

Always been skeptical about hydroponics, how do they make sure the water has all the nutrients. They could be missing some micro nutrients.

  4. MrBakedDaily on August 31, 2021 at 12:43 am

    This is an horrible comparison

  5. Jarred Lozano on August 31, 2021 at 12:44 am

That reservoir isn’t big enough for big veggies roots

  6. Brad Miller on August 31, 2021 at 12:46 am

Not worth it, build your own and you can customize it to whatever you want to grow, herbs, cacti, flowers, etc.

Hello, did you know that we were created by God and one day we will present ourselves again before him? How have we treated our brothers? How have we honored God for the precious gift of life? Walking with Jesus, The Good Shepherd, Way, Truth and Life, He will help us to be children, image and likeness of the Father. We will also enjoy his unparalleled love and kindness. Pray. Read the Bible. Jesus will soon return to seek those who love Him into His kingdom of love. You are precious to God.🌹🌷🙋

    How does the taste compete?

    Is this an ad?

  13. iuztihc on August 31, 2021 at 12:59 am

    Is it worth it financially?

  14. skyak on August 31, 2021 at 1:02 am

For over $700 I expect to not need to clean up after plants.

  15. jcrowley1985 on August 31, 2021 at 1:02 am

For that price, at least grow weed in it

  16. Lum on August 31, 2021 at 1:02 am

Wow so smart. Is it fisher price?

  17. Jennifer Sun on August 31, 2021 at 1:04 am

    Just grow it lol

I’m looking into wall mounted hydroponics for my apartment.

There are good plans on YouTube to build one for yourself!

  20. Cune Rater on August 31, 2021 at 1:07 am

I had the Rise Garden for a little over a year. It’s nice until their water pump failed and there support team won’t admit to replacing it to the latest one, which they have been doing for other customers. Worst experience ever

  21. xXxSkyViperxXx on August 31, 2021 at 1:09 am

that guy was honest. he wasnt just advertising the product that sponsored him

  22. xXxSkyViperxXx on August 31, 2021 at 1:10 am

they could grow crops in space or mars or antarctica or the moon using this

  23. Daniel X on August 31, 2021 at 1:10 am

No it can’t. I experimented with hydroponics. Costs too much to build. One led light alone costs $100-200. Sun light is free. Sprinkler system too expensive and maintain. Not worth it.

  24. nukezat on August 31, 2021 at 1:11 am

I can build something better with 100 bucks worth of home depot parts

  26. Will McKinty on August 31, 2021 at 1:12 am

Nice review! – LOVE that people seem to be getting more and more into growing their own food!

  27. ittotaq on August 31, 2021 at 1:13 am

What’s dumb is those grow pods for the hydroponics will cost more than you going to the supermarket and buying it yourself. Wish it wasn’t that way.

  28. Yudha Chandra on August 31, 2021 at 1:14 am

    ads are getting smarter

Will the plants have same nutrients as the ones grown in the sun ?

  31. David Pak on August 31, 2021 at 1:17 am

    No

  32. Alexander Gracian on August 31, 2021 at 1:18 am

lol. Rediculously expensive & over-engineered. Suggest using Kratky method, it’s simple, effect, cheap and virtually zero maintenance. Just a few plastic containers (from Whole Food market if you want to be a hipster) and a few cheap grow light led’s! Eg https://youtu.be/XDuqJUdjr14

Ask him how to defeat the Squash Vine Borer, I just got decimated

  34. Brendan Kirk on August 31, 2021 at 1:21 am

I have one. I love it

  35. kofManKan on August 31, 2021 at 1:25 am

Rip off, but bring on the competition, all will be well.

  36. HumNYC on August 31, 2021 at 1:27 am

What about the taste? Although they grew at different rates, and the varieties are probably different, does an indoor garden with artificial light affect the taste of the final product? Also for size, I’m imagining the smaller versions of the indoor unit aren’t going to provide much once you harvest; in order to always have fresh greens available you’d need the larger unit to sustain constant growth and harvesting. The pods remind me of Keurig — are they sustainable, or bad for the environment?

  37. NPC007 on August 31, 2021 at 1:27 am

This is so stupid, you can easily make one yourself, and as for the grow lights it cost pennys to run, LED lights barely use any wattage and the water pump is nothing as well.

  38. lokospoko on August 31, 2021 at 1:29 am

hate hidden ads… btw you can build that for 30% of the 700usd!

  39. Ved Dev on August 31, 2021 at 1:30 am

You didn’t talk about nutrition which has more minerals and vitamin?

  40. ibex33 on August 31, 2021 at 1:30 am

    What a useless contraption

  41. Luigi Villacorta on August 31, 2021 at 1:31 am

a commercially-priced and readily available system that every household can use to grow products year round, all while using sustainable and recyclable materials sounds like one of the best investments you can make. Can gardening and agriculture have the next industrial revolution?

  42. Kasyfil Syahmi on August 31, 2021 at 1:33 am

    i love it

  45. No One on August 31, 2021 at 1:34 am

Ask any cannabis farmer, outdoor can’t even compete with indoor. There is no competition when your’e able to completely control the environment.

  46. heri0n on August 31, 2021 at 1:37 am

    This is just an ad…
