Ball basil herb growing kit review

Ball basil herb growing kit review

This is a review of the Ball Basil herb growing kit. I purchased this in the canning section of WalMart. I also show a diy alternative growing system that you can make with a mason jar and three-inch net cup. There are time-lapse videos showing two stages of growth between the Ball mason jar basil herb growing kit and the diy mason jar growing system that I made.

I make commissions from purchases made through the following links. This is at no extra cost to you and helps support my channel. Thank you.

You are correct, your fertilizer mixture was too strong and I’m not certain how old your seeds were..Just purchased this kit always wanted to try- this is coming from a Horticulture major…..Great presentation, thanks for taking the time…

This time lapse is really amazing to watch. A lot of people complained about the ball kit. And I mean it has flaws but it’s not terrible if you have some general idea of what you’re doing

Microfiber is a no-no because of health concerns. Just use rope with good wicking 😊

There’s something a bit comforting about watching time lapse of stuff growing. Good video. Thank you!

Cool comparison, Peter! If Ball is going to sell that type of kit, they should better understand hydroponic gardening. A clear jar? Ball Co. fail. Keep the videos coming!

    What is master blend?

As a biology student, I admire your scientific reasoning and approach to the experiment (too many variables, etc) 👍

That’s the very first thing I tried when getting into hydroponics. Got the basil to grow really well!

Great review Peter. I think this Ball kit is a great way for a novice to try hydroponic gardening.

Very cool, as always, my favorite is time lapse. Interesting comparison. I use the Dynagro for most inside hydroponics now. Works great in AeroGardens too. Thanks Peter.

Thanks for your video. I had just purchased this ball kit with three jars to learn how they did it. It came with the basil, cilantro, and mint. $28 at walmart. A bit pricey. A start in learning before I jump into that huge pepper tree you had in the 32 gallon trash can. Amazing though. Was going to cover mine with brown paper lunch bags.

    perlite outperformed coco coir? surprising.
i’d love to see trial #2 (but keep the nutes and seeds the same).

The instructions said that “if you notice several leaves turning brown, add CAL-MAG fertilizer by following manufacturers instructions. This fertilizer can be found at your local garden stores (not included with this kit).”
