I would probably use two pots. The mint will do better in its own space so that it has room to spread its roots and trait a bit. The other two should be ok but more room is better for certain herbs. Sage will also do well.
Hehehe. I just bought a Rosemary plant for $2.98 and as soon as I had the time I looked you up specifically. You are my Gardening IDOL!
Great window sill, Luke. Your herbs will fill out quite fast. I am growing Basil, Rosemary, Lemon Verbena, Cilantro in my south facing windows. I just started some Parsley seed in a recycled cherry tomato container. Which makes an excellent mini greenhouse. Thank you for making these videos.
Tip for everyone. My great grandmother boils water and pours it in the soil and then lets it cool down. It works. I do it now to kill any bugs and it works wonders too. 🙂
I got my basil for a buck because they let it almost die… doing great after 4 months.
Horrible music
You’ve got too much thyme on your hands. LOL
also can get some of those live herbs in the produce department in Walmart. They have them at mine anyway
I have deck railing planters that I never used. Do you think I could use those instead of going out and buying glazed pots?
Could you please provide a link to the background music that you played in your video? Thank you.
I can’t believe I’ve not thought of this awesome idea. Thanks Luke. I’ll be doing this at the weekend 🙂
haha. that Styx song would have been great. God, your song on the video was a bit painful. for curiosity’s sake–what’s the name of the song? Maria, HillCountryHick.com
Great tutorial, Luke. It looks awesome 🙂 It’s definitely a great idea to take advantage of the low prices that some stores have in the fall.
I actually found a very nice amount of parsley growing in our garden this past weekend!
Meijers Grocery stores are located in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Kentucky and Ohio. Those are the only states that Meijers is located in, sadly. Because I’d gladly go purchase herbs in their stores if they were in South Dakota. Guess this is a project for a different time of year for me, more like right now. Versus winter time. 🙂
How does parsley, oregano, and ginger do?
awesome UPDATE thank you for sharing have a blessed day
Thanks for the great vid! Question: Don’t the holes at the bottom create a mess (overflow) on the ledge? Should you buy a planter with a plate underneath. Also, would you suggest putting some rocks or pebbles at the bottom before the soil (if you get a planter with no holes?) Thanks!
I have avocado trees growing on my windowsill! 😀
Great ideas, thanks.
I’m loving the music
I live 1/2 mile from a Meijer…great store. My best window for growing anything is a south facing window…will basil, thyme grow there you think? Not much direct sun but lots of bright light for several hours.
Nice winter gardening space Luke.
Scarlett
Thanks for sharing Luke. Proof you can always grow something. Best wishes Bob.
Very nice. For really good aroma therapy just sit by the window and touch the rosemary.
r u in michigan? ?
Shared on Facebook & Google+ Good video 🙂
Hey Luke, would you ever consider doing a charity like event for a gardening related charity? Idk gardens for retirement homes, that sounds like a good idea ^^
I’m jealous of people who have window sills large enough to grow any type of plant.
Timely upload! I’ve successfully grown a cactus in my dorm’s window for just under a year and was looking to do a windowsill herb garden. I was really wanting to do lavender, mint, and thyme.
I like the look of separate containers so I wanted to ask you about them.
Will planting my herbs in separate containers help or hinder their growth? I really want the best balance of low maintenance and high growth.
Love your videos, much of it is much beyond my ability, but great stuff nonetheless! Keep up the great work!
