Great video now I am planning to seed around March do I fertilise 1st a few days before seeding or do it at the same time using pre seeding fertiliser?

Hi. Can i plant seeds if day temperature is above 10 degrees, but night temperature is below 10 degrees?
you’ve just contradicted yourself , don’t bury the seed and then you say put a layer of soil over it to lock in the moisture , so which is it ?????
I’ve just had 40 tons of soil/ earth removed to level our garden. We’re left with clay and whenever it rains in turns into a swimming pool. What are you tips to prepare the surface before sowing seed please? Eg depth of top soil, any drainage advice etc pleqse
Really appreciate your reply. May I ask what did you use in your video? The lawn is level just a few dips that you wouldn’t notice till you walked over it and also we had very bad investigation of leather jackets that left the lawn very lumpy and I want to re- level it. It’s a small garden so would you still recommend soil over sand. Many thanks.
Great tips mate, over my time on lawn care you’ve covered a lot of solid basics. I use a roller after applying seed and use very little top soil on top and get very good results

I tilled my entire backyard and put the seeds down and after layed a small amount of leaf mulch on top. It seems to be impossible for me to achieve grass

Should I scarify now in February?
I made the mistake of buying cheap speedy-growing lawn seed from my local general store. It was a mix of ryegrass and annual ryegrass so within a year half had died off and the other half was clumps of very coarse grass better suited to a field – where I neglected to mow it grew to a metre high. I’ve pulled it all up and have re-seeded with a quality creeping fescue mix which is now creeping beautifully. It’s worth taking more time and expense over!

Hi mate, I’m almost definitely going to use the cold start in early March. Do you think it’ll be ok to seed again 6-8 weeks later? I’m thinking a good scarify before the cold start and then top dressing when the existing grass can cope with it. Any advice is appreciated. Cheers

1. (1:10) Timing of when to put
2. (2:30) Planting depth of seed – too deep won’t grow, too shallow also won’t grow. Target top quarter inch of soil bed.
3. (3:21) Watering – should be moist, not dry not super muddy.
4. (4:20) Pick the right seed for the soil you have.
5. (5:47) Seed sowing rate
6. (6:46) Preparation
7. (8:42) Rolling or treading on the seed
If you tread over the seed isn’t there a danger of compaction? I tried to start a new lawn in mid March. I tilled, raked and put fertiliser in the soil before sowing and treading the seed in, but I must’ve done something wrong because now the soil is like cement. I’m gonna give it another shot this Easter but don’t wanna make the same mistakes.

When we moved into our house the back grass was terrible. All weeds not much grass. I got rid of all the weeds and seeded the whole lawn. It’s now all grass but it’s a mix of the nice dark green grass that I seeded and the old light green stuff which doesn’t look good. So the colours look patchy. Will overseeding fix this or should i try and dig out some of the old grass. Thanks.
Bought good grow grass seed what a waist of money,benn waiting 2 weeks and not a blade of grass followed all instructions no sign of growth i feel a fool for believing their adverts know better now ,don’t i trust any big claims by these big new company’s save my money now
Caring is the worst thing you can do. Just throw that shit out there and don’t care. Then it’ll explode into a jungle of healthy lawn. If you care it’ll die to spite you.
What setting did you use on your scott’s spreader to get 35g/sq mtr?

Just over seeded my lawn, not fed it since last summer, when I shall I feed it and best fertilise please? Heard a heavy N feed will promote the lawn to grow n not giving the new grass a chance, pls advise.

Hi Matt, I have low water pressure and can not make the sprinklers be effective – Is it possible to use my garden hose head attachment and water the seed with that? It is seed into heavy clay soil.

I’ve just started digging all my grass up (weeds) manually I’m starting to regret it I’m half way of digging up ,a pile of mud and weeds ,now do I carry on back hurting, I suffer with sciatica not the best thing to have when digging I do about half hour of digging then stop once I do get all the weeds dug up then what

What if we had a digger in, scraping all the old turf away, tilled it all back to just soil with lots of stones in it. … We sprinkled soil fertiliser all over and no weeds are showing. Can we just sprinkle grass seed on top or do we still need to apply weedkiller? – The bottle suggests applying the weedkiller when the weeds are active, but so far we have none …. Thanks. Matt, my garden is south facing but I have an area of my lawn which gets very little light because of shade from an overhanging tree and a wall at the back. This means that area of the lawn is often overtaken by the moss as the grass struggles to compete. Would you recommend using a different seed variety for that corner of the lawn? Would there be a noticeable difference in appearance?
