Hey Luke, just so you know that second plant is not Vietnamese coriander however it does look alike 99.99% the key identification of the plant is the leaves and the smell. Vietnamese herb smells really good while the look-alike have no smell at all Vietnamese herbs leave is slimmer while the look alike is a bit more round I’ve been growing this plant and I do have the look alike also and I’ve been wondering if I could actually eat that as well.

It is sad and irony that most American households believe they are weeds and pour gallons of toxic chemicals to their yard to kill these beneficial plants every year. Dandelions feed a lot of important pollinator insects like honey bees and butterflies, not to mention they are super food to human.

    Thank you!

  4. Jose Last name on August 6, 2021 at 9:52 pm

You can also make a type of coffee from the root of the dandelions

  5. Amber Donaldson on August 6, 2021 at 9:56 pm

Wild lettuce is another one that can be found in gardens, also poke weed, though with poke weed it has to be picked while it’s young and cooked a certain way otherwise it’s toxic.

    – DANGER – poisonous lookalike! spurge is a poisonous plant that is similar in appearance to purslane. spurge is distinguished by a milky sap, which can be seen if you squeeze the stem.

  7. Vaslergaming on August 6, 2021 at 9:59 pm

Also clover is a great one, you can identify it by chevrons on the leaves, the flowers are edible as well (But don’t eat to many as they can cause bloat).

    I love vietnamese coriander

  12. Stephany Gates on August 6, 2021 at 10:02 pm

I found this to be β€œanother exciting episode.” Also, I let purslane provide ground cover, discouraging other, less tasty weeds.

    Great info! Thanks.

  21. Rosie Rose on August 6, 2021 at 10:13 pm

Spurge can look just like purslane or portulaca and Lady’s thumb can look just like the Vietnamese coriander

  22. EdibleWildFood.com on August 6, 2021 at 10:14 pm

Wild plants have been demonized for decades yet most of them that are edible are not only a free source of food, but food that has more nutrition than anything in a grocery store!

  23. Aggie Ramsay on August 6, 2021 at 10:14 pm

  26. Phuong Che on August 6, 2021 at 10:19 pm

About Vietnamese coriander this could be a lookalike, Vietnamese coriander must have distinct smell

  27. Isaiah 40:31 on August 6, 2021 at 10:20 pm

There is a look a like to purslane which is poisonous. It leaks a white sap….

  28. Justin G on August 6, 2021 at 10:22 pm

I don’t pull weeds anymore I find that they help me keep moisture in the soil.

  29. killuminate peacefulness on August 6, 2021 at 10:23 pm

    Make another video like this

  30. Hieu Lam on August 6, 2021 at 10:27 pm

Hi Luke, I’m Vietnamese and I believe the plant that you identified as β€œVietnamese Coriander” is incorrect. It doesn’t have the same smell, it’s not bitter and it should not have the red center. If you want to compare it to the real β€œVietnamese Coriander”, please go to a Vietnamese or Chinese supermarket and check in the vegetable aisles.

  31. Gladys Lim on August 6, 2021 at 10:28 pm

The camerashouldfocuse closer to the plants not your hand.

  32. Mola humola on August 6, 2021 at 10:28 pm

  33. Vaslergaming on August 6, 2021 at 10:30 pm

Wood sorrel is another great one, they look like a miniature clover without the chevrons, they have a lemony taste.

  34. Jena Garcia on August 6, 2021 at 10:30 pm

Yay We eat 3 of those 5…now I know amaranth! thanks….

  35. Ka'ena Higa on August 6, 2021 at 10:32 pm

You might want to also explain the poisonous look-a-like of purslane

  36. B on August 6, 2021 at 10:32 pm

Edible weeds are SO important during COVID. People need to stop killing off the native plants. I feed the weeds from my garden to our chickens , they are packed full of nutrients & much more fun for my chickens to eat than grain alone. Their favorite is green clover !

This is a great video. I really wish you would revisit this topic and add to or embellish it. I love growing Lamb’s Quarters, White Clover, Dandelions and Purslane.

  50. Srinath Seshadri on August 6, 2021 at 10:49 pm

I have none of these except dandelion. In fact I planted purslanne and couldn’t get it to grow in SC. Ofcourse I have a million other weeds and I routinely eat myself out of the 1/2 to 3/4 acre to the point where I have to add store bought greens to it, ofcourse I also have 3-4 boxes of boiled out greens at any time sitting in the fridge for various uses. But I need to get all these growing, purslanne especially.
