No, bean plants DO NOT provide nitrogen to other plants. Most all – if not all – of the nitrogen produced by bacteria on bean roots goes into the bean plant itself – that’s the whole point. And much of the nitrogen that goes into the bean plant goes into the beans themselves. Which are what you harvest – removing the nitrogen. The only nitrogen left over is in the leaves and stems, which is only available to the soil if you work them into the soil and wait for them to break down, which can take a few years.

Great vid but please, as a Dutchie I just have to make sure people know it was the Dutch why carrots are orange!

  11. Cam montreuil on May 21, 2022 at 8:19 pm

? Easy ? Maybe for you. I’ve been trying for 30 years. After this summer I’m giving up.

  12. Throku on May 21, 2022 at 8:20 pm

Got radish of those working for me. Carrots were tried a few different with no big luck, but they’ve all been orange varieties.

Had a real trouble with the weather the last few years though, snow in may? We had frost yesterday night. (May 9th) And even so we have our first harvest of raddish and spinnasch and sallad. Though the sallad is still very small.

When I grew up we used to be bathing in the sea by now. Where the hell is my global warming? Where’s my growing season?

  13. Christ the way, truth, life on May 21, 2022 at 8:22 pm

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
    John 14:6 (NKJV)

    Salvation:

Confess and repent of all your sins in prayer in the name of Jesus.
Forgive those who have harmed you (this will free you from anger) as God forgave you.
Believe Jesus died to blot out your sins and proclaim He is your Lord and Saviour.
Believe He rose again 3 days later in the flesh by God’s hand.
Be baptised fully immersed in water and be baptised in the Holy Spirit (if possible).
    Repent daily.
By grace you are saved through Faith (belief).
    Live pure and stop sinning.
    Follow the spiritual laws:
Love you neighbour as yourself and love God with all your heart, soul and mind.
    Develop a relationship with God.
    Be obedient.
    Do fruitful charitable deeds.

Jesus is coming soon. We are living in the final days…

I would add potatoes to your list.

  17. Moon Child Wild on May 21, 2022 at 8:27 pm

I’ve always heard that the larger the vegetable, the more tasteless it is. ??? So you don’t really want to grow carrots, zuchinnis, etc to grow too large. ??? 🙂

  18. L Karamazov on May 21, 2022 at 8:28 pm

I was a little confused, when you go to the store to buy the Asian green seeds, is that what you ask for “ Asian green seeds”? Great vid!

Unless you properly inoculate the beans with the appropriate bacteria OR you have that bacteria natively in your soil then the beans WILL take nitrogen from the soil instead.

  28. Mariah on May 21, 2022 at 8:37 pm

Do you have any tips for getting rid of squash bugs. I’m get infested every time I try to grow organic zucchini. Thanks for your great videos.

  29. Caolan Hogeweide on May 21, 2022 at 8:37 pm

I live in Japan. Beans are easy to grow here, but leafy veggies get eaten quite often by snails, birds and caterpillars. I haven’t had much luck. I have the most success with tomatoes, cucumber, and squash. I have not had any luck with carrots or radish. I need to protect my crops with netting, otherwise the bugs get into them.

  30. Jonathon Sisson on May 21, 2022 at 8:37 pm

I couldn’t help but think while you were topping those carrots that composting the tops is great for fertilizing, but feeding a herd of rabbits those carrot tops would be an even better source of fertilizer =)

I grew up in a time where money was very tight and food was short. I remember eating lots of radishes because they were so cheap.

We would butter untoasted white bread, place thick sliced radishes on top with some salt and call that a meal.

  43. ll Ozbin ll on May 21, 2022 at 8:51 pm

    -beans

NOOOOOOO. YOU CAN EAT THE CARROT LEAVES! WHY WOULD YOU TOSS THEM?!?!?!?! You can make them into chips to preserve them or you can use them as garnish or even in a salad. I love the list BTW. I’m gonna grow some radish soon and already have carrot growing. I just need to find some aisan greens I like because I barely ever have any.

You know the world’s in trouble when you’re thinking of growing your own food — esp. if you live in the city….

  47. brigboss on May 21, 2022 at 8:55 pm

Beans are an excellent food, but it has to be cooked. Raw, they are toxic.

  48. S D on May 21, 2022 at 8:55 pm

Question I use to eat carrots as a kid growing up. Now I am way damn grown I am allergic to them. Is there a difference from store bought to growing your own?

  49. Mac D. on May 21, 2022 at 8:56 pm
