I would say, get your trees from a local nursery, not a box store. I bought both my peach trees at a local nursery and I noticed the tag read that the tree needed only 400 chill hours. The nurseryman told me that Bakersfield, California does not get many chill hours and those particular trees would produce fruit while a tree needing 700 chill hours would not. I notice that the tags on the peach trees at the box stores do not tell one how many chill hours the tree needs.

Love your videos! Thank you for this one, I wonder about how you apply the wp surround kaolin clay to your tree. I have a 50 year old tremendous apple tree, here in Long islnad, NY , It was supposed to be dwarf. . but it has two types of trunks, so must be combination from the root plus trunk portions growing into numerous trunks after all. …..The tree is so tall now not sure how to manage. Loads of apples every year, cannot eat any . Apple damage looks like same pest -plum Curculio you mentioned. I have wanted to buy more fruit trees but have been concerned all would have same pest issue, so have not done so, yet. Now I feel somewhat encouraged by your video. .

IDK about #4. I hear you, tho I inherited some yummy apple trees for some year, some years ago, and approached it like you at first, leave it natural and it had like thousands of great apples for some years, then 2 years or so the snow load on the long branches broke off big portions, probably lost more than if I pruned 😉 and maybe w those amazing years, its because before me it was opened and the deer could easily get in and prune it. So maybe it had a lot of built up energy and I leave the extras on the ground to go back into the trees after the bugs are done with them. Historically it was said 7 years before fruit trees are "really ready" to be picked from. the fence was only for the dogs

Hey James can you post a couple of links to some reputable companies that sell bareroot trees?

Where or who do you order your fruit trees from? I am new to gardening in general. I have no idea where to get my fruit tree from. I am glad to hear I shouldn’t go on the cheap whatever fruit trees available from local big box store. Thank you in advance.

This is why you have to look at different garden people and get an idea what they’re really talking about, and so far you have proven you’re the best good job

  15. Flo on April 26, 2022 at 6:50 pm

Putting garlic under your trees keep pests out of apples, we comb the back roads for garlic seeds every year, get a couple gallons, and throw out every spring under umbrella of the tree

I just bought 2 twisted apple trees from Lowes. *sigh* I’ll do what I can with them! I want some peaches too, will go to the Tree Farm as I originally planned to.

  32. Rosemarie Sturiale on April 26, 2022 at 7:13 pm

Am I too late to start pruning my peach tree? It’s just starting to bud and has a few flowers.

  33. Tammy Depew on April 26, 2022 at 7:14 pm

Bare with me I’m a total garden mess:

I know you said spray the trees at night with the sulfur for brown rot, but how does that not hurt the bees the next day when they show up to pollinate, obviously you have beautiful trees and plenty of fruit but I’m just curious.

Ive never got any fruit off my trees, except for one year with a older pear tree my dad planted years ago, if any do start to produce it either falls off in early spring storms when they are super tiny, or grows a bit and gets eaten by squirrels, deer etc… Brugge it’s anywhere near ripe, they can raid a tree quickly or I end up with brown rot. I think I have 4 peach trees and 3 pear lining my driveway that I bought from Lowe’s through the years so I have no idea what variety they are and they have definitely never been pruned properly. I pretty much just gave up on them.
I do understand a little more about pruning after watching this, but I guess it’s to late right now since spring is so close here in central MO?

  34. Harper Dron on April 26, 2022 at 7:15 pm

Does he get more and more aggressive with his intro each video or is it just me? ❤️🙌🏽

  35. The truth on April 26, 2022 at 7:16 pm

I heard that it is better to prune the trees in spring cause they have more juices and they will heal faster and better.

  36. Leané Vermeulen on April 26, 2022 at 7:18 pm

When I Purchased my first cherry tree I had no idea why I was doing..
I bought a sour cherry on a a normal root stock.. 😂 I rent and have a tiny garden! So I kept it in a pot for 3 years
This year I bought a Victoria Plum on a pixy rootstock. They do really well where I live and I love a sweet sour plum! So second time I did my research.

  38. Jeremy on April 26, 2022 at 7:18 pm

You may have mentioned this and if so, I apologize but what sites would you recommend for ordering good quality bare root trees from as well as seeds for veggies and fruit?

  39. Sandy Tmobile on April 26, 2022 at 7:19 pm

Hello From Oregon, Your enjoying we enjoy just as much fruit as we can so this year we put in twenty grown purple asparagus, ten pink strawberries, had to do a new blueberries and we planted two pink limonaid blue berry , we finally found Rubarr it just hasn’t been around. Our Family Garden growers for plants doing well but for Our Food Farmer’s aren’t growing this year again. It has nothing to do with worker’s but no water rights our Govener dumped our lakes took out river dams so the biggest fight of feeding food processing plants have had them close down for good. So learning from you to help bost more for good we thank you.

  40. Jacob Furnish on April 26, 2022 at 7:21 pm

On rule 4, why not pinch/destroy the flowers before the small fruits develop so the fruit tree doesn’t waste energy on fruit that is just going to be picked off later? Also, a note to add on rule 4, even if you can get away with being greedy to some extent, meaning you can have a large amount of heavy fruit on a tree that fully develops instead of partial development, branches can snap off the tree due to the weight of the fruit. This is especially true with persimmons, citrus, and any tree that sets large fruit! If branches snap off in fall or near rain events, this is especially bad because it can introduce eupta dieback and other pathogens that can kill the entire tree! Rule 4, in my opinion, is the most important to follow. DON’T BE GREEDY!
