2020 DECK GARDEN TOUR!! NOREEN'S GARDEN
2020 DECK GARDEN TOUR!! NOREEN'S GARDEN
This year we decided to try a bit of a deck garden. We have not had a garden for the last three years because of certain circumstances and honestly due to burn out. We used to be super heavy duty gardeners but at some point life got in the way and other things took priority. This year, with all this mess we thought it would be a good time to try what we have been considering for a while. This deck garden composed with grow bags is the perfect solution for our sunny giant deck. Everything is just right and there is even plenty of room for me to have way more peppers than I need!
We have 10 varieties of tomatoes and 10 varieties of peppers as well as a big pot of zucchini plants and one with yellow squash. One pot of eggplant and one pot of climbing cucumbers. A few boxes of herbs are doing well and I plan on doing a box with some romaine and butter lettuce. I truly love growing my own food and am still amazed at the perfection of God’s creation!
We have put cages in all the large pots right side up. On the smaller 1 gallon grow bags since they will not accommodate the cages easily, I put them upside down over the pot and put a garden stake to support the plant and then bundled the bottom portion of the cage around the stake and secured it with a zip tie. Perfect solution! This will make for a much easier way to deal with these once they get much larger.
Over all we are really pleased with how this turned out and how well it is thriving. I am also pleased that Molly has taken such an interest in growing this year. A gift I am hoping will continue throughout her life as she goes off and builds her future.
I hope this little tour of our humble deck garden was helpful and I hope it inspires you to go out and get some soil and start your own little garden no matter how small your corner may be there is room to grow a few plants and have your own fresh produce!
Happy planting!

Do the grow bags drain out extra water? I have to grow things on our patio, are the bags reusable for next year? Your garden looks fabulous.
Lovely thank you for sharing

Hi Noreen! I didnโt realize you were from New Bern! I thought you mustโve been from North Carolina just by a couple a couple of the things you said, but didnโt realize exactly where you were. Grew up just outside of town and happy to see other people doing gardening videos! Thanks for sharing
What do u do with the grow pots when your growing season is done?? Do u empty them out or store them with the soil in it??
new subcriber. love your passion for vegetables. great content. may god bless your garden and your family!
Love it! I’m going to try this but I need to put down some planks on bricks so my deck doesn’t go rotten too quick.
I loved my patio garden when I had it.. I need to start up a herb garden,, I truly miss it. Thanks for sharing, it was good to see the tour, I love your garden videos, I love learning and seeing how to do a garden when you don’t have a lot of room or the mobility to be able to have a ground garden.
yes i’d like to see once a week, thx.
You can buy ladybugs to eat the bad bugs. They are very helpful.
What kind of soil do you put in the pots? Thank you.
I have 6/100 gallon grow bags and 12/10 gallon. Can’t wait to see them that big
Follwing you for years now amd i lobe tje garden ๐ you look great lobe the videos๐
Really love your Garden videos.. more more..lol
I have a question how would I find a local event of local plant expo type
Love these ideas for container plants!! Would the dampness under the containers rot your deck wood? I have a new deck and wonder how to keep it for as long as possible.
Love it! I just planted a few veggies and herbs for the first time and harvested my first cucumber, it was delish. Quick question will you be transferring the squash plant into the ground soon or will it bear fruit in the grow bag?
Looks absolutely WONDERFUL!!
Just Gorgeous!
Thank you Noreen for sharing. It is 6am here in Ireland and I have been unable to sleep so have thoroughly enjoyed your video. Following cancer treatment then knee replacement my brother made some high planters so I could continue to garden. I can grow from seeds and have flowers fruit veg salads and herbs…all in small amounts but such fun to grow. If you want any seeds or pics let me know and I’ll post to you. Don’t know how to on this tablet but post office would deliver mail. God bless and enjoy your lovely garden.
Noreen thank you and you look radiant!!!
Thanks for the tip about the grow bags.
I see God’s miracles in my planting as well. You are not alone.
Grow bags?! Cool idea!!! No plastic to throw out.
i like your idea of turning tomato cage upside down and zip tieing the top. i never woulda thunk.thx thumbs up.
U can get 100 gallon
That was great! Love this different type of video…I have little green tomatoes setting on my patio pots and green beans looking pretty good.
I love this. I was actually looking for a pot or something for my tomatoes for my deck. This is exactly what I need! Thanks
Love your garden I do it for 3 years in a row and work so well. You can do potatoes too. Last year I harvested 40 potatoes. Enjoy your garden.
Thanks! I never knew about those grow bags! I just want a small back deck garden of herbs and some veggies.
So cool, I love this! Beautiful too
Yes! God’s creation!
How lovely to see you Noreen ๐
I would love to see your garden progress.
I don’t have a good place for an in ground garden so have used pots of 20+ years. We don’t have near the variety of plants you seems to have access to. Because of all that has gone on this spring, I only have a bare minimum 4 plants this year . Two mater, one yellow or red bell pepper , and a pickling cucumber plant. I’ll plant some leaf lettuce later in the year when it starts cooling off again.
Its much nicer to make a blackberry jelly then push the pulp through a sieve add apples and make what they call a cheese which is just a jam made with the pulp as those seeds get stuck in your teeth ,love your pots have just ordered some
And you inspired me to get going and go water my garden before it gets too hot ! And also move couple of new herb pots planted yesterday to the back deck! Thank you for all the inspiration!
Looks totally awesome … I love this simple idea of a deck garden โค๏ธ ๐ ๐ฅฌ๐ฅ๐

Enjoyed this so much! You are a lovely internet friend! Thanks for sharing.
Looks amazing! Are you seeing any sign that the grow bags are causing the wood of your deck to rot? Thx

Are you concerned about chemicals leaching out from the pressure/chemical treated wood on your deck and getting into the blackberries which look like they are in the dirt below the deck?
Great video, I tried using grow bags last year, however here in VA, they dried out so quickly. how do you keep your plants watered and the soil damp?
I am growing the Cherokee Tomatoe, they are slow at turning but they are good.
Beautiful!!!
Looks nice Noreen. Where did you find the no heat jalapeรฑo?
