Do not grow potatoes in fall/winter. With the short days, potatoes (lettuce and others) absorve more nitrats and become poisonous

I live in Central TX, Zone 8A. It can be 85ΒΊ in December and January for a couple weeks then drop down suddenly to 40ΒΊ or lower. The winter weather here is so fickle and unpredictable. So we just grow produce almost all year around.

I need help. This is my first time growing Japanese eggplant. But I noticed within the same plant the normal purple eggplant fruits are growing, so is this yellow looking one too. Any idea why? Thanks in advance.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ 🍁 Up here in Canada, there is not too much you can grow late in the fall. Garlic cloves however are best planted around the first frost date, a thump deep and a handspan apart.
Kale varieties and swiss chard can still be harvested late in November, despite of mild frost. Same with radishes, cabbages, and cauliflower greens, all good and very hardy. I thing collard greens might be on that list too. Carrots as well can be harvested late in the fall.
If you have a cold frame, or a green house, you can extend the growing season on both ends. Some things amazingly can survive winter with enough mulch and a good cold frame.β„β›„β„β˜ƒοΈβ„
